@JDaviesPhD 1. world is depressing, 2. new generations are weak or lazy - want easy answers to problems instead of working them out, too much adult interference while growing up, 3. doctors don't take time with patients to really help them, pills are the easy answer.
Webinar by @SheilaFernley on Sunday was the most useful info I've ever received.
(Lots of good stuff in others but mostly repeat or vague.)
Sheila's info was new to me. Also, practical & specific. I'd love to attend her live workshops. Maybe if I'm in Florida for my horses.
@AlissaLindemann Agent wish lists are a general guide. You don't need an exact match. Many say they don't know they want something until they see it. If the specifically ask NOT to send something, don't send it. If they don't represent your age category, don't send it. Otherwise, go for it.
@Elaina_Eiser Not sure I would admit that to anyone. I can imagine the ribbing you're going to get, ๐คฃ. I hope it's not too painful, (the injury or the ribbing).
@glimmer_ann We are definitely living in a digital world, but face-to-face communication is always going to have more impact. That said, New York is accessible to any serious agent, and I know some make regular visits from the other side of the country. Also, not all editors live in NY.
@RWeberWrites It's easy to get caught up in the race to publication, making it a priority. I got off that roller coaster of hope, disappointment, & desperation. I write for the joy of writing, keep an eye out for opportunities but think of them like lottery tickets - it would be nice but . . .
@ClaireLLLW81 Maybe 'cause I'm old, or Canadian, or lived in a rural community, or all 3 - there were no 'popular kids' at my school. We had different groups that hung out together, but we all got along with each other. Nobody was better than anyone else.
@ValkyrieWalking I'm also curious about what made me start writing. I started when I was 4 yrs. old. Neither parent was a writer (& no relatives I know of). It just came naturally to me. Didn't take it seriously until I was homeschooling grandkids during covid & started writing picture books.
@ByYourBedside Just the fact that this GIF exists shows how sad the world is today. Reality shows are so popular and, unfortunately, the allure is mostly about how mean the participants are to each other. Some exceptions, but not many. These are the shows influencing our young people.
@PJScribbansAuth Not sure if my characters know things I haven't told them, but my stories always know what they want to say before I do. Complete 1st drafts come to me, from my subconscious mind. So, there's usually a message I have to dig out. It's like trying to interpret a dream.
I opened X to find 2 notifications & 1 message. The notifications were someone following me, then liking my post which said I'll block anyone who DMs me uninvited. The message was from the same person.
@brclothwrites I traveled from Canada to Italy, alone, for a writers' workshop. Felt weird but was a huge confidence boost. I did it! Reduce the stress before you leave. Check to make sure you know all the laws & unwritten rules, (unsafe places, tips, etc.). Have all papers in order. Enjoy.
