Agreed with the Park Board that staffs default position should be to chime in on how batch plants harm public parks and health. We have never seen OEQS or Parks Depart chime in at CPC on this. In Houston they have public health experts on staff testifying for council on this.
One of the rare moments we agree with some of the DMN editorial board… SB 929 was GAF s bill to avoid amortization passed by the lege in May 2023. Council is so behind they haven’t wrapped their heads around this, let alone what amortization even is SMH.
Standard Industries, the parent company for dallas polluter #GAF tops the list of the nations Toxic 100 Air Polluters Index published by @UMassAmherst https://t.co/po5QMKgBDU
2 meetings scheduled for today related to finding a new Dallas City Manager.
One is at 9am — the other at 1pm.
Wish I could tell you what *might* happen, but I think after the chaos at City Hall last week, a firm outcome is up in the air.
Thank you to the greater-DAR-community for coming out last week. It was great to catch up with many long time supporters and exciting to meet some new friends of the fight. Our Impact Report is out and if you like what you see consider contributing: https://t.co/5KkXTWENz5
Our impact report for 2024 just dropped 👀 check it out here: https://t.co/wXUUYX9kUa and if you like what you see, donate here: https://t.co/5KkXTWEfJx #SmallStuffAddsUp
‘The community is my boss’ is a frequent hot air comment from D6 Councilman Narvaez. Yet, he refused to take the action the community demanded - amortize GAF. Now SB929 is also holding up justice for Floral Farms. Industry took action, our D6 rep didn’t.

@dallasnews A state law lobbied for by GAF, the 80 yr old asphalt shingle factory in West Dallas, holding that community’s health hostage also because of council inaction. Bad actors like GAF, TAMKO and former Shingle Mountain owners are calling the shots at city hall over resident health.
The @CityOfDallas is constantly telling communities to trust the process. Trust has only been broken in Floral Farms and countless other communities. Council has to get this right in February or ForwardDallas, CECAP and any EJ policy is meaningless https://t.co/vlz60a7zcA
@CityOfDallas once again failing to do their homework or their job by delaying a 6 year long process to address zoning incompatibilities in Floral Farms https://t.co/i7b9Ym02dr
Residents living near the former site of ‘Shingle Mountain’ have pressed City Hall to help protect their land since 2019.
The Dallas City Council voted to delay rezoning the area — again. The zoning change could limit future polluters from moving in.

New motion by Bazaldua for it to be held until January 22 meeting. Changed to February 12 as a compromise between Mendelssohn advocating for march and others advocating for January. Motion passed.
City attorney being called up to explain the legal reason for holding the authorized hearing. Full briefing to council on SB 929 coming on January 15th and will impact how we treat nonconformities. Namely that it is an hard process for cities to deal with nonconformities.
Motion made by Councilman Ridley failed to push the hearing back to end of March. West n
