Talked with a woman tonight where her loved one has been incarcerated for 20+ yrs (he was 17 when arrested). Was denied parole because he didn’t do any sex offense programs, even though the prison acknowledged they have none.

For 13 years I've been pondering the impact of "stranger danger" warnings--how its 1980s popularity led to the culture of fear, surveillance, excessive sentences. Now that crime has spiked during Covid I fear a resurgence of this overkill. So this piece is great:
If you are someone who stole something, lied or cheated as kid.
Do you tell people you are a Thief, a Liar or a Cheat?
If you don’t do this- then please don’t call ppl incarcerated an inmate or ppl when released a convict or ex-felon.

That should be enough to tell you that prisons aren’t about rehabilitation.
