ITV daytime is staffed by the best in the business. They might be my rivals when I’m on air but they’re always friends and colleagues. Sending them good wishes on a tough day.
I just want to send a note of support to my behind the scenes colleagues and friends at @GMB and @thismorning, and across ITV daytime.
Many, including scores of hardworking, dedicated, talented, production staff, and studio and other crew, (as has widely been reported) are being told their roles are at risk of redundancy and that they will have to compete for similar positions.
It's a very difficult time, and I want to send a public note of appreciation for everything they do and have done (as I'm not due in the building for a while to see people in person - and even when there its only a fraction).
And I think its important to be clear, in public, that this is primarily a function of the decline in linear television - and not a reflection on the quality of the work.
TV ratings (and thus for ITV, show revenue) keep dropping by, say, 10% year on year as more people switch to streaming and other online eyeball competition. That then leads to cost cutting, and job losses.
Not that understanding the rational makes it easier, for anyone facing this life challenge.
Good vibes to all.
Think I'm going to ditch this platform. I don't really use it anymore anyway. Already begun the process of burning my professional account. It'll be interesting to see how big my data file will be.
A flurry of local news:
- Homebase is now closed. The Range opens there early Feb
- new Turkish eatery opened opposite Propertyworld
- Br3wery has moved to the larger neighbouring unit on Beckenham Rd
- bookings only at Churchfields refuse site from early Feb
I have been very lucky to travel to many great destinations around the world but I have never encountered such a warm hearted, kind and friendly hospitality like I have received from everyone in Derry. I can’t wait to be back! Merci and Happy Halloween 🎃💀👻
Really is incredible to think that the Tories announced compensation for victims of two scandals, then did nothing to arrange the money. Labour has had to put aside a massive chunk of the money they secured yesterday to fulfil a promise the previous government made.
The Chancellor says the NI Executive will get an additional £1.5bn next year. That consists of £1.2bn for day-to-day spending and £270m for infrastructure investment. Stormont's Dept of Finance working through the detail but on the face of it that's more than expected.
i wish my c!s friends understood what a deliberate and concerted effort every major news outlet is currently making to sell the narrative that people like me are okay to murder. i wish anyone cared how young we die. they just look away, it’s easier not to think about it too hard.

The Israeli military filming with a drone its own mass displacement of Palestinians in northern Gaza under the threat of annihilation. Homes destroyed, shelters for displaced people burnt, thousands of people rounded up and expelled. Self-indictment.
UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk says that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is at its darkest moment yet and warns of potential crimes against humanity:
"Unimaginably, the situation is getting worse by the day. The Israeli Government’s policies and practices in northern Gaza risk emptying the area of all Palestinians. We are facing what could amount to atrocity crimes, including potentially extending to crimes against humanity.”
