This is utterly appalling. Even in the days of the JP Movement leading up to the Emergency, there was no bar by the @UnivofDelhi on students joining any of his protests, and a couple of members of my Union Cabinet at St Stephen’s, including the late Chandan Mitra, openly did so.
If one of India’s foremost public universities is allowed to threaten its students and faculty with significant consequences if they attend a protest, it has a chilling effect on democratic speech and expression. Most DU students are not so privileged as to ignore such a sternly-worded warning without fearing that their academic or professional prospects might suffer if they attended the protest.
A university is meant to teach critical thinking and independent assessment of issues, not to stifle these very qualities. Shame on those at the @UnivofDelhi who saw fit to issue such a tweet. They are unworthy of holding any position at an institution of higher learning in a democracy.
🚨Serious allegations by Uttarakhand Police constable Sher Singh.
🚨Leaked question papers are available at grocery stores! The rot is THAT DEEP!? His public resignation from the police force should worry PM Modi.
🚨Not all men in khakhi want the blood of students on their hands.
How dare you threaten students for exercising their democratic rights?
Please note, you are the ones that will be held accountable when the time comes.
Here is a premier public university of India threatening its students and faculty that being at Jantar Mantar could seriously impact their “academic progress and professional opportunities”!
The same University that is fighting a legal battle to hide the identity of its most illustrious student!
The govt seems to have made full preparations to evacuate the youth at Jantar Mantar by force last night using para military forces, but seeing the enormous crowds there along with politicians & celebrities, it seems there was a rethink & they desisted.
This govt feels, it can ignore public opinion since they have the main institutions like the Judiciary, Media and ECI under their control. But they forget that public opinion affects many people in those institutions too. Moreover, history is littered with examples of how people overthrew dictatorial govts by revolutions when they ignored public opinion & used brute force on the people
Proud of this kid. He seems amazing. Humbly, It feels like your channel is exploiting him to invalidate other kids. Maybe the next time a bridge collapses you could interview someone who took a longer route to work and got promoted. Instead of engineers or people under it.
