The US will continue to have a gender pay gap until it fixes underlying structural problems like the economy's reliance on women doing unpaid or underpaid caregiving for children and older adults. We must give care work the value it deserves.

Lilly Ledbetter never got a dime from her pay discrimination case because Goodyear got it overturned by SCOTUS on a technicality. She made 35% less than male counterparts which left her with skimpier retirement & Social Security. Women today can relate.

In retirement, Lilly Ledbetter couldn't even afford repairs to her home. Yet she fought for gender pay transparency & equity until her passing. RIP Ms. Ledbetter @petulad
She was the first author. She was his collaborator on the paper that has been cited for the prize. This is what is Matilda Effect where women’a achievements are sidelined in favour of a man.
Sadly, we still default to granting more respect to men than women.
8 studies: we're >2x as likely to call male politicians, athletes, teachers, and authors by their last names. It matters: surnames signal higher status.
It's long past time to use consistent standards.
Gender promotion gap: Though women tend to outperform men, they are 13% less likely to be promoted. Instead of rewarding men's self-advocacy and requiring women to do the same, managers should recognize women's high potential @jdickler

Study of children in grades K-3 finds beliefs that older girls would struggle on a STEM exam and men are more competent in STEM professions. Girls perceived STEM jobs as more difficult than non-STEM jobs; boys perceived them equally difficult. @kimelsesser

Men's median earnings rose at twice the rate of women's median earnings in part because men are overrepresented in high-wage jobs and women in low-wage jobs. It's not only being paid less for the same work; it's that class inequality and gender inequality are inseparable.
Last year men's earnings rose 3%; women's 1.5%. The gender pay gap widened; in 2023 women earned 83% of men's earnings, down from 84% in 2022.

Anyone notice that this wasn't a longitudinal study? That no measures were taken of the kind of lockdown these children had experienced? And check out how many were actually tested! Teen Girls’ Brains Aged Rapidly During Pandemic, Study Finds https://t.co/RKabIbcLuH

In our research, we found 30 identity factors--having nothing to do with a woman's skills--which were excuses for why she is 'never quite right'.

Was a bit different to be interviewed for the @NewStatesman "Policy Ask" but good to discuss things outside of health & covid...! including democracy, wordle, and avoiding working with toxic people wherever possible!
