The Madlanga Commission has heard evidence about the nature of the relationship between Adv Andrea Johnson and Major-General Feroz Khan.

Evidence leader Adv Sello challenged Johnson’s description of their relationship, saying it was “deeper” than she had disclosed in her affidavit.

The Commission was told that WhatsApp messages exchanged between the two reflected a much closer personal relationship than previously acknowledged.

Johnson accepted that they were friends but denied that the relationship was improper.

She testified that they never visited each other’s homes and said the first social event they attended together was Khan’s 50th birthday celebration.

However, Adv Sello put it to Johnson that the messages showed a “very close relationship.”

The Commission heard that Khan greeted Johnson with messages such as “Hi gorgeous” and that the two frequently exchanged messages saying they missed each other.

It also emerged that both Johnson and Khan have a close relationship with Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Hilda Senthumule.

Johnson also shared an affidavit with Khan relating to an assault case in which he was implicated.

She earlier said he did not want to self-incriminate herself.

Johnson repeated today again that the matter is before the NPA and her “rights need to be protected.”

A decision on whether Johnson must be prosecuted must still be made.
