#OnThisDay in 1704 #Gibraltar was captured!
The operation involved British & Dutch naval forces, supported by Catalan Artillery & Mountain Fusiliers troops. The Catalans landed at what is now known as Catalan Bay.
Long Live the British Rock of Gibraltar!
@GBossino Yes, same here! I usually did the shouting, hoping my family on the Spanish side would hear me. Those were heartbreaking times that so many families will never forget 😢
A single photograph tells a thousand stories! This is me, my late parents & my brother Robert on his Holy Communion standing at the closed #GibFrontier, hoping our grandparents could see us from across the fence. Families divided by politics 😢 #NeverForget
🇬🇧🤝🇪🇺 A new chapter for Gibraltar.
The signing of this agreement provides certainty for people and businesses, supports prosperity across the region, and protects Britain’s sovereignty and way of life.
Gibraltar remains an important part of the UK family.
Hi @SuellaBraverman. You have it wrong, starting with the title of my office... 🤦♂️. Please read all the text and the supporting documents and stop playing politics with the People of Gibraltar whose future YOU and your ilk put in great jeopardy with #Brexit. Stop misleading with your selective quotation of a complex document largely negotiated by YOUR Conservative government when it was in office and YOU were Home Secretary.
I was at the Joint Ministerial Council in London today continuing to work on modernising Gibraltar’s relationship with the UK to keep it current & stronger than ever
Thank you to FCDO for hosting us and to the Minister for Europe Stephen Doughty for his ongoing support.
@FCDOGovUK
This week I met with His Majesty The King at a reception at Buckingham Palace offered by his Majesty to the leaders of the Overseas Territories around the Joint Ministerial Council held this week in London. It was an honour to represent the loyal and great People of Gibraltar before His Majesty.
Today I attended, together with Gemma Arias-Vasquez, the Socialist International Council meeting in Malta and a dinner held around the Council. This is the first event we have attended since the GSLP were added as full members of the organisation. I was invited by Socialist International President and Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez to attend the Presidium meeting of SI. I also had the pleasure of joining President Sanchez for dinner, together with the Prime Ministers of Malta and Kosovo and the President of the EU Committee of the Regions as well as Hana Jalloul from PSOE. Over dinner we were able to enjoy less formal discusions, as socalists, joined by the principle of promoting the universal values of progressive democracy, equality, social justice and civil liberties.
At the Council meeting Gemma Arias Vasquez and I were sat in the front row with our Gibraltar name plates prominently displayed.
The GSLP applied to join Socialist International in 1988 and our application has taken 37 years... but WE NEVER GIVE UP and now we are full members.
The Socialist International (SI) is the worldwide organisation of social democratic, socialist, and labour political parties, encompassing approximately 132 member parties and organisations across all continents. Founded in 1951, the SI serves as a key political alliance dedicated to advancing its core ideology of democratic socialism.
The organisation structures its work through a supreme body, the Congress, and various regional and thematic Committees. Through this framework, the Socialist International addresses critical global challenges, advocating for a more peaceful, equitable, and sustainable world order.
Today, #Gibraltar stands in solemn remembrance of all those who gave their today for our tomorrow. We honour their courage, their sacrifice, and their enduring legacy.
May we never forget the price of our freedom!🙏🏼 🌺🇬🇮

In 1782, Sergeant-Major Henry Ince of the Royal Engineers proposed a daring plan to dig tunnels into the northern face of the Rock so that cannons could be positioned to fire on the Spanish lines below...
