Some places never feel the same twice.
Four weekends. Four 3:00 AM departures. Four unforgettable Mt. Satima summits.
Every sunrise, every step through Dragon Teeth, and every amazing group reminded me why I keep coming back.

In 2024, malaria resulted in over half a million deaths. The malaria vaccine is available to all children between 6 months and 2 years of age, living in malaria endemic areas. When used together with other malaria control strategies, the vaccine has been shown to be highly protective against severe disease in young children, who face the highest risk of dying from malaria. #WorldImmunizationWeek #vaccineswork #HumanlyPossible

Protecting young people from cancer is one of the greatest gifts we can give them. The HPV vaccine is powerful in preventing cervical cancern and other HPV-related cancers, offering long-term health benefits. Just like vaccines for measles or polio, vaccination is about preventing disease, not influencing behaviour. Research shows that getting the HPV vaccine has no impact on a person’s choices later in life; instead, it provides lifelong protection against a common and potentially dangerous virus.
In today’s digital world, myths and misinformation spread quickly, making it crucial to rely on data and facts. The vaccine is recommended for girls aged 10 to 15 years because it works best before exposure to HPV. Choosing to vaccinate isn’t about encouraging any behavior, it’s about empowering young people to live healthier lives, free from preventable diseases. #HPVVaccine #CEBA #PHC #RMNCAH+N

Today the Championing Evidence-Based Advocacy (CEBA) team participated in the 7th Annual National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month commemoration in Nyandarua County. The event was officiated by the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Dr. Mary Muthoni, and graced by Nyandarua County First Lady, H.E. Grace Kiarie Badilisha, alongside Deputy Governor John Mathara Mwangi.
The commemoration focused on strengthening awareness, prevention, and early detection of cervical cancer. Key activities included free cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination for girls aged 10 to 14 years, reinforcing national efforts to eliminate cervical cancer through preventive healthcare interventions.
Speaking at the event, PS Muthoni emphasized the importance of early screening, HPV vaccination, and timely treatment, noting that these interventions save lives. She urged women to prioritize regular screening, as early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and improved health outcomes. Additionally, she commended Community Health Promoters for their dedication to educating communities and advocating for increased uptake of HPV vaccination and screening services. She also highlighted the critical role of proper hygiene in preventing infections and promoting overall well-being for both children and adults.
On her part, H.E. First Lady Grace Kiarie called for greater efforts in scaling up HPV vaccination and routine screening, urging parents, guardians, and community leaders to play an active role in ensuring young girls receive the vaccine at the recommended age. She further emphasized the need for parents to prioritize proper nutrition for their children, as good nutrition plays a vital role in building strong immune systems, enhancing overall health, and reducing the risk of infections and diseases, including cervical cancer.
The commemoration reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening cervical cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. Moving forward, sustained collaboration between the Government, healthcare providers, and community champions remains key to eliminating cervical cancer and safeguarding the health of women and girls across the country. #CervicalCancer #HPVVaccine #Vaccineswork #vaccinesaresafe #HPV
