Here’s a law that someone in our Republican controlled legislature might want to consider proposing: if more than 10 percent of first or second generation immigrants from a particular country are on any kind of welfare program here, immigration from that country automatically shuts off for 10 years.

Immigrants should contribute to our country. It is not our job to contribute to them.

I’m being generous by setting the threshold at 10 percent. But even such a high threshold would solve a lot of problems basically overnight.
