As the NDP leadership rules and race unfold... you’re going to be hearing from lots of party insiders, quoted in places like the Globe & Mail, CTV and CBC.
You know - former staffers, consultants, former provincial cabinet ministers, the kind of people who leave politics and start lobby shops led by 1 Tory, 1 Lib and 1 NDPer.
First of all, remember they’re pros. They play to win, they craft the narrative. They call reporters and shape the ballot question, define their opponents. Frame the public's understanding of the race.
And as far as all that goes: fine. This is what they do. Their livelihoods depend on their skill at playing the game.
There’s just one problem: this is no game.
This is a battle for the soul of the party that has made Canada different from the US.
This is a party that was born of the 99%, and will start winning when it belongs to all of us once again.
And it was these insiders - and their expertise - that engineered the NDP’s decades of incremental, Liberal-lite politics.
Their kind of politics brought us to the low point where we now must begin again.
And they are going to fight like hell for what they insist belongs to them: they think of the NDP as *their* party. Their (broken) toy. Their club, to run by their rules.
But we don’t have to let them. We can unleash the power and wisdom of the base.
We can build our membership, organize like everything we love is at stake.
And let the members decide.
We can demand that our process - our decision - is made in the sunlight of collective action, not the back rooms where insiders ply their trade.
A process that is not rushed, that allows members new and old to get fully involved and have a say.
LET'S TRUST THE BASE.
We need a party rooted in:
🟠 Moral clarity - on climate, oligarchy and genocide
🟠 Solutions as deep as the crises we face
🟠 Public ownership, massive reinvestment in universal services, transfer of wealth from the top to everyone below.
So let the grassroots rise.
And let’s reclaim our party for the many, not the few!
The City of Victoria's bylaw change prohibits encampment evictions without first securing evictees accessible shelter or housing. Great to see Victoria Council complying with Canadian law. Pay attention Hamilton and Sarnia. https://t.co/ZFqp7uzxb8 @AndreaHorwath@cityofhamilton@mayorofsarnia@CityofSarnia@JohnPaulDanko@TeviahMoro @tylerkula
@GeorgeMonbiot There's a 40 year old @CBCNews documentary title The Greenhouse Effect that's fascinating. The presenter Peter Kent, went on to be Environment Minister who pulled Canada out of Kyoto.

It's here in Ontario. White supremacy loud and proud. Don't pretend for a moment it stops at the border. Remember Nazi flags at the convoy...
Wonder if they include all settlers?
@LarryDiIanni@AndrewDreschel Just 90 years has passed since James St looked like Little Mississippi. Literal KKK riding horseback and burning crosses on Jolley Cut, while 2000 watched. Don't pretend these people didn't have children to pass on the hate.
@cityofhamilton "leadership" is playing with fire!
@CHCHNews Two @CHCHNews sexual assault articles, published four days apart.
One includes the perps identity... the other conceals it. Why the difference, @CHCHNews?
It took the threat of a legal summons to get the tar sands giants to come testify before Parliament.
They showed a total disregard for their role in the climate catastrophe.
This is my take down of the Cenovus CEO.
