These are just a few examples of the essential role these communities play in the global fight against climate change. Know any other great examples of how indigenous knowledge is helping save the planet? Let us know!
✊🌱✨💙
Indigenous peoples are disproportionately affected by climate change despite contributing little to greenhouse gas emissions. Although they make up only 5% of the global population, indigenous peoples care for more than 25% of the world’s land and 80% of its biodiversity!
For example, knowledge of healthy fish spawning sites has allowed Skolt Sámi people in Northern Europe to restore river ecosystems and make them more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
