@gregory_annc Make sure you reach out to supply companies - they have promotions for new labs. When I worked with Fisher on equipment I obtained a couple things for free when I purchased a larger piece like an incubator. Shop around and get quotes from everyone!
@blackcapitol Went to Ohio university in 2002 and they used quarters. Fall quarter was Sept - Nov. Had 6 weeks off till new year and even earned money working as holiday staff at mall. Winter/spring quarters meant there till June, but worth it!
@ASBMR We are now less than 1 week away. Can't wait to have Dr. Vesterlund discuss this very important topic as a strategy to balance our work-life "ebb and flow". Please sign up and join us!!!!
Register today for an upcoming webinar by the Women's Committee. Dr. Lise Vesterlund, co-author of "The No Club: Putting a Stop to Women's Dead-End Work," discusses the art of saying no and bringing gender equality to the workplace

Summer Lab lunch - bittersweet send off for Huda heading to @MUCOM_Indy, Shyam @IUSM_IMPRS poster session this week, Jordan's plenary poster selection @ASBMR, and belated welcome to new PhD student Katharina. #proudPI
@LifeAfterMyPhD Had a supportive mentor, a project that I was proud of, fun time with friends and fam (all my sisters at same postgrad school), and met my now husband. Of course trials and tribulations along the way, but I remember way more of the good.
@MelanieH_L So true! Had to give a chalk talk to dept faculty yesterday and I was adding prelim data to a slide while waiting for the stragglers to join the zoom meeting
@NatashaOBrown1 Our university supports LabArchives (aka pays for license). Only ELN I have used and I like it. We attach raw images and files to a page so all of the data stays together. We can share with lab members/outside folks. Nothing but positive superlatives
@NinaSteele17 100% promote writing a Stephen Katz R01 (check which institutes support this). Consider outside consultation - BioScience Writers was one I used previously. Also had extensive mentoring from Sr. faculty (spent HOURS with me on review comments)
@SandraNoDuerme Had a chat with @matthewrallenIU about this very thing! Courses beyond scientific information are needed. Also a course on mentoring because PIs rely on students to help train others in the lab.
@ClarkNano I did a whipped brie so you don't even have to bake anything. Then you can top with honey mixed with a salsa macha, toasted almonds to spread over bread. You could add anything you want really and then spread over bread
