Best movie theater in America and the single positive thing I will ever note about Massachusetts which is otherwise an eldritch horror of a state. They deserve every gd penny they're asking for.
A strike could be coming to one of Massachusetts' most iconic movie theaters.
The Coolidge Corner Theatre Union says workers voted 67% to reject the theater's "last and final" contract offer and will now set a strike date unless negotiations continue.
"US inflation jumped to an annual 3.8 per cent in April, while average hourly earnings increased 3.6 per cent over the year, meaning prices were rising faster than earnings for the first time in two years."
Bob Dylan: Please, I'm 85 years old. I've been doing this for three generations. Let me stop, let me rest.
Mother of Muses: You will devise a ragtime arrangement for Masters of War. You will perform it on 60 nights in midsize venues across America. Do this or THE WORLD WILL BURN!
I legitimately do not understand what is on offer here. Who actually wants any of this? Who is buying products but does not have time to consider their purchase? Who is desperate to be seen wearing a live streaming piece of surveillance tech?
All of this burning of capital on a burning planet amidst the mass homogenization and degredation of knowledge and culture to produce more targeted advertising and expanded everyday surveillance.
lol academic life right now is so absurd. there are no jobs, tenured liberals don't know what year it is, and you're supposed to provide comments about arguments hallucinated by a robot that flies military drones and moonlights as a ghostwriter
"The US government this week sold 30-year debt at a 5 per cent yield for the first time since 2007, in a sign of the growing pressure that the bond market sell-off is piling on to governments."
The head of CentCom claims no evidence of civilian casualties from US attacks (and if there were they were the fault of civilians who he personally warned were being used as "human shields") while Iran documents 1700 civilian deaths, 763 schools hit, and 316 healthcare sites hit.
Dan Osborn is one of those key cases of Carhartt aesthetics vs actual solidarity w/ those who labor and championing a dude who wants to complete the border wall (an actually insane thing to support) is legitimately disgusting.
Going to KC this weekend for the first time in a decade and trynna research if there are any hot up and comers in the burnt ends sandwich scene or if I just go back to the classics.
There is no constituency of "the people" waiting to be formed via recognition by the correct formulation of Jeffersonian, Lincolnian, and/or Rooseveltian republicanism.
We did the nationalist myth as rhetorical wellspring of social change argument already almost a century ago. The Kenneth Burke position won out. The Popular Front was annihilated and its legacy destroyed and socialism became unmentionable in less than a decade. It does not work.
For God's sake it is in the opening of The Eighteenth Brumaire that this kind of mythic looking backward is the banner taken up by those who cannot face the real historical challenge of the present. It has fundamentally always been a strategy of weakness and defeat.
