OPCON in news again, a US-ROK issue many people know enough about to sound like they understand it. They don't. Fortunately, I've forgotten more about OPCON than most will ever know. Here's my report, which provides background & is still relevant.
The purpose of USFK & the US-ROK alliance is once again going to be a subject of debate...history rhyming (maybe loudly) on the peninsula

Despite ROK defense officials insisting USFK’s role “will remain unchanged,” this week’s events & current trend lines indicate otherwise. @KoreaEconInst@AndrewIYeo@Mister_G_2

@dagyumji & @TheKoreaHerald provides concise coverage of @KoreaEconInst report on the US-ROK alliance & a Taiwan Conflict..nicely hits the key points.

It's long but the report offers insight on state of U.S.-ROK alliance discussions on Taiwan conflict, challenges obstructing such discussions, & critical variables or dynamics alliance would navigate in the event of a conflict. Have a read!

Come to @KoreaEconInst on Mon (3/31) for the release of my report on whether & how U.S.-ROK alliance is situated in relation to a Taiwan conflict based on dozens of interviews w/ current & former gov't officials, think tank experts, & academics.

In periods of crisis & uncertainty deeply embedded & dependent psychologies in US-ROK relationship rush to the fore. Many talk of remarkable alliance transformation (& there are good reasons to do so), but I tend to see sticky historical path dependencies & bad habits dying hard.
Lots of effort went into producing latest issue of @KoreaEconInst's Fall/Winter issue of Korea Policy. Recent events rightly overshadow such products but don't alter the depth and value of the analysis.
