Just finished PACT meeting this evening.

Lots of discussions around: fly tipping, bins, trees and overgrown vegetation, HMOs, potholes, parking, Argyll Rd depot, antisocial behaviour.

Out and About in Deepdale this morning following up on issues:

(1) abandoned car that was criminally damaged on St George’s Road now gone,

(5) incomplete/missing double yellow lines at junction of Castleton Road and Skeffington Road reported 19/2/26 (Ref 5341701) - still not done @LancashireCC - what’s the timeframe?

(4) overgrown vegetation impacting the pavement all along bottom of St George’s Road, reported 19/2/26 (Ref 5342196) and 3/4/26 (Ref 5461070) - not been cut back @LancashireCC, and

I’m really pleased that my Notice of Motion calling for a Nationally Televised Emergency Briefing on the Climate and Nature Crisis was passed by Full Council today.

The recent heatwaves, wildfires and the tragic estimate that more than 2,700 people may have died during the recent heatwaves in England and Wales are a reminder that the impacts of climate change are already here.

They affect our health, our food security, our transport networks, our homes, our wildlife, our conservation areas and historic buildings, and the communities we live in.

We also need practical local action, including more cool spaces, drinking water and support for vulnerable residents. As temperatures continue to rise, measures like these will become increasingly important as we build stronger, safer and more resilient communities.

Out and about in Deepdale this sunny evening.

The Blog Preston article featuring my travails with overgrown/slanting trees and general vegetation overgrowth and @LancashireCC has gained some traction and people have emailed me about issues on Blackpool Road (obscured traffic light), St Stephen’s Road and Watling Street Road.

And gullies that don’t drain completely on Harewood Road / Park Ave - total of 7 near the junction. Reported the flooding @LancashireCC who said works have been completed. However these 7 gullies are half filled with water showing that water isn’t draining hence during a downpour the roads flood. There’s clearly a blockage in the drainage somewhere.

I am so fed up with the grotty state of the part of Deepdale from Deepdale Road to Garstang Road and the inadequacy of the LoveCleanStreets app reporting tool that I invited a journalist from Blog Preston to a walk around to highlight the issues. LCC needs to be proactive in the upkeep of vegetation in neighbourhoods rather than reactive. I invite @LancashireCC for a walk around my area to see the extent of the problem. Should I hold my breath ?

Deeply saddened by the tragic death of former MP Ann Widdecombe. My thoughts are with her family and loved ones.

After the murders of Jo Cox and Sir David Amess, this is another moment for reflection. Whatever the circumstances of this case, those of us in public life know that abuse and hostility towards elected representatives has become far too common.

Here in Preston, some councillors have experienced significant animosity in recent years, including over the Israel–Palestine conflict. Passionate disagreement is part of democracy, but intimidation and hatred should never be. We can disagree without dehumanising those who serve their communities. Let’s bring more respect, kindness and civility back into public life.
