Eric Muuga: Apparently, the water abstracted from our catchments, rivers, and streams is lost at a rate of 43% because it does not generate revenue for our water companies, which are under the county government. This is what we call non-revenue water. The water is abstracted from the stream, treated, and chemicals are added, yet it does not contribute to the revenue of the water service provider

KMTC Announces 22,070 Training Slots for March 2025 Intake
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has announced 22,070 training slots for the March 2025 intake.
The courses offer aspiring healthcare professionals an opportunity to pursue quality medical education.
In a public notice, CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch urged prospective students to apply, noting that successful applicants will be placed across the Collegeโs 90 campuses to study in 115 programs.
โOf the available slots, 19,570 are for preservice training, while 2,500 are for upgrading and Higher Diploma courses,โ he noted.
KMTC provides a robust training experience, with 70 percent practical learning and 30 percent theoretical instruction.
Dr. Oluoch stated that preservice programs are open to Form Four leavers who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) between 2000 and 2024, with applications to be submitted through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
โThose interested in upgrading programs, Higher Diploma courses, and short courses can apply through the College portal,โ he noted.
In response to the increasing demand for its programs, KMTC has expanded training slots in selected campuses to accommodate more students.
The College has also invested in state-of-the-art facilities, including simulation labs, skills labs, and modern training equipment, to enhance hands-on learning.
Beyond academics, students will have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, promoting holistic development and a well-rounded educational experience.

KMTC and UNHCR announce 50 scholarships for Turkana residents and refugees
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), in partnership with the United Nations High Commission for @Refugees, has announced 50 scholarship opportunities for the March 2025 intake.
These scholarships will support Turkana County residents and refugees in Kakuma and Kolobeyei Camps who are interested in pursuing a Certificate course in Community Health Nursing.
KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch said the full scholarships will be awarded based on merit, thanking UNHCR for their continued support.
โThese scholarships will play a key role in building healthcare capacity in marginalized communities,โ Dr. Oluoch noted.
Last year, the College received a similar scholarship program, which attracted around 6,000 applicants.
As part of the collaboration, UNHCR is funding the construction of a library and a tuition block at KMTC Lodwar Campus.
โWe are also working on expanding this partnership to fund additional infrastructure development,โ Dr. Oluoch added.
On January 20, 2025, a high-level team from UNHCR, @novonordiskfond, the Royal Danish Embassy, and Grundfos Foundation visited the Lodwar Campus.
The delegation inspected ongoing projects, met with beneficiaries, and discussed plans to help sponsored students' progress from certificate to diploma programs.
This initiative comes as KMTC prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary since its founding in 1927.
The College continues to seek partnerships to support needy students and strengthen healthcare training across Kenya and beyond.

Sad to learn of the passing of Nolly Raye. To many in the nation, he came to prominence with his 'Habari zenu, habari zenu tena' trending moment. To the Little Theatre Club, theatre scene and Mombasa community, he was a progressive figure. Condolences to family and friends.
