@stupidtechtakes Yeah, I suppose at their scale, nothing is really ever going to be “cheap.” I’m sure they have a better deal with Google, and other optimizations like not sending data when nobody is actually talking, AFK timeouts, and so on probably help with that even more.

Hey folks fleeing Discord, here's a heads-up about those "free" chat alts using Cloudflare's RealtimeKit (RTK). RTK is free during the beta phase, but charges will start after that. So apps advertising unlimited free voice/video might not survive when the bills hit.

Most truly free Discord alternatives require self-hosting everything or sell your data to the highest bidder. With Cloak, we don't ask you to deal with that. Our mission is to make something as easy to use, safe, and private as possible.
