Welp. It’s the crypto bug of the year. Mark it down for April. Java 15-18 ECDSA doesn’t sanity check that the random x coordinate and signature proof are nonzero; a (0,0) signature validates any message. Breaks JWT, SAML, &c. https://t.co/t2WgnS0g3A
Here's my article about who we are, why we're trapped, why we are heading for planetary collapse, and what we must do to prevent it. It might not be saying much, but I think this is the best thing I've written. https://t.co/l9aLVivMZt

Social media platforms are stepping up their authentication game 👏
Last week, Twitter announced multi-key support, and today, Facebook announced you can now log into Facebook on iOS and Android mobile devices using a security key. https://t.co/ptf0PksbCp

This piece was so incredibly painful to write. It's not about corrupt people do corrupt things. That would be simple. It's about good people genuinely trying to do the right thing. But they're trapped in a rotten system, trying their best to push the status quo that won't budge.
As a...
– registering user
I want to...
– have each password requirement slowly revealed, ideally upon each relevant invalid attempt
so that...
– the registration form doesn’t appear cluttered with convoluted password requirements
I’ve onboarded enough users to know that nothing yields a great sigh like having to remember your password. Only to be followed by an even heavier sigh when having to do two-factor auth.
It’s quite a broken experience that is worthy true reinvention.
If you were looking for somewhere to #shopLocal / #adoptAShop, did you know you could call up, have the loveliest conversation with a knowledgeable book nerd, and wind up with a rake of books at <€3 next day delivery from @chaptersbooks?
A research paper was published looking into the privacy of the Google & Apple #covid19 exposure notification framework and Contact Tracing Apps https://t.co/5jzftRysq3 #GAEN
How the first day of the covid tracker app looks: 800k total downloads, on average ~10 check-ins per second (in reality this would have come in bursts), and anecdotally a few very small outages (network lost, numbers zeroed, T&Cs missing)
#CovidTrackerIreland#CovidTrackerApp
I did decide to install the app myself (obviously, screenshots) because from the docs and the open sourced code it seems to me that a real effort to preserve privacy was made, while still providing a tool that Might help save lives and livelihoods. Fair dues to the makers.
How many people in Ireland own a phone built recently enough (and updated enough) to install the app? Would love to know the theoretically possible uptake, and thereby the number of people who don’t use it out of (actual) choice.
