They added some; then took them off. There was a free trade agreement in place covering most items. Other items outside this were not reduced

@TristinHopper The US car market in less than 20% of the world market. 80% would be open to Canada which would have no tariffs on inputs - even parts from US likely would be tariff free. Plus we have steel, aluminum and energy at lower cost than the Americans.

@steveliesman Canada had an auto industry long before NAFTA. They joined 1965 Canada-US Auto Pact, which led to integration of Canadian and US industries due to concerns of efficiencies of scale. Contrary to what Lutnick and Trump imply Canada didn’t take what was US production.
