Even Socioeconomics textbook admits South Africa’s refugee & asylum system is a deep mess. We issue permits for free movement while cases drag on for years, approved “refugees” get citizen-like rights, yet fraudulent claims are rampant and straining our resources. Other countries put them in camps, we give them Sandton.

I truly hope the party leader had no involvement in any shady dealings with the rich General. Certain groups will cook us and they’d be right. In our workspaces we defended the guy vigorously because we saw ourselves in him. That’s on us. Time will tell.

1. ANC – Highest volume (sociology, education, public management)
2. DA – Strong policy-relevant fields (Public Admin, Political Science)
3. FF+ – Specialist legal expertise
Education strengthens governance

One big gap: Very few (if any) active top politicians hold PhDs in Engineering, Technology or hard STEM fields. We need more technical expertise for innovation & infrastructure!
