Radar rendering of the #DavisFire's plume spreading over Reno on 09/07. Perhaps you had ash falling in your yard? on your car? If so, send us photos of ash particles, a size reference (e.g., coin), a time, and a location. See example from @DRIScience's Tim Brown. @UNRScience
Here are some other great example's for #ashfall photos from @CloughFireWX. Send us your photos in this thread, tag #ashfall, or use the Citizen Science Tahoe app's "Ashfall" survey: https://t.co/jc4oAoojrC
Today’s fire potential briefing by me 👀. It’s been such a great experience spending the past two weeks with Predictive Services!

Incredible footage of a fire whirl on the Warner Peak Fire in Oregon, captured by the UAS module working on the fire.
#wildfire#orfire#orex
The drone’s IR camera captured the event, and you can see the rate of spread increase drastically as the whirl develops. Amazing capture. The Warner Peak Fire burned 82,000 acres of the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge in northern Lake County and is now 100 percent contained.
Thanks to the Substack subscriber who shared this incredible footage from the new wildfire tech now flying on many incidents. 🙏
The fires in central/eastern Oregon (top right of this image)are other ones to watch today for potential #pyroCb development, and are already showing signs of deepening #pyroCu.
Could machine learning help predict the next big wildfire? Just ask the experts at #SJSU’s @wildfirecenter, the largest academic wildfire interdisciplinary research center in the country.

Another incredibly explosive day of PyroCu development on the #OakFire as deeper monsoonal moisture in the upper levels to the east near the Sierra Crest begins to impact the plume. This can drastically change fire behavior going forward today… #CAwx#CAFire#FireWx

Raw video from destructive #OakFire burning in #MariposaCounty. Fire has burned 6,550 acres as of Saturday morning and destroyed 10 structures https://t.co/Hy5AtietEy
I continue to be amazed at the incredible work @SJSU’s @wildfirecenter does to improve our understanding of wildfires & make our communities safer.
I’m thrilled further federal investment will support this lifesaving research.

UPDATE: The community of Laguna Niguel, CA is coping with the fury of Mother Nature tonight as firefighters continue to battle the 200 acre #CoastalFire into the night. At least 20 homes destroyed, no injury reports yet. #Air7HD@ABC7
Colorado just experienced its most destructive wildfire in state history on... December 30th. The extreme fire weather behavior and rate of spread in a densely populated area in December is unprecedented and just hard to comprehend. #MarshallFire
