After earning Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors in 2023, Roberts continued to be a consistent presence at linebacker, recording 83 tackles in 2024.

In 2025, Roberts finished second on the team with 84 tackles, including 4.0 tackles for loss.

In the Big 12 Championship against BYU, Roberts recorded five tackles, two interceptions and a pass breakup, helping Texas Tech secure its first Big 12 Championship. He was named the game's Most Outstanding Player for his performance.
