@intentionalisms@shaulyaakov Adjusting the exchange rate based on land/property values would make more sense as land is one of the few things muggles and wizards are forced to “share.” They can fuck around with space expansion magic indoors, but they still need some amount of physical land to build on.
@SlDEBURN@nixonist The hat trying to convince him to go to Slytherin is good writing because it is setting up a better payoff. The hat wants to because he can feel part of Voldemort’s soul (heir of Slytherin) inside him, which is also why he can talk to snakes. Harry rejecting this is symbolic.
@drryanpepper@confusedtayo The actual gold content has to be incredibly low. The melt value of any coin in circulation needs to be lower than face value otherwise it encourages melting. Also, Hagrid is the one saying this and he has like an 80 IQ, he would probably think pennys are made from solid copper
@OrdinaryGoose@kodkod87@roycearonie Force them to sell? “This thing is bleeding money and is impossible to make profitable due to regulations, please buy it so you can lose money instead.” Great sales pitch.
Who is going to buy it lmao, the government? If that’s your answer you are literally describing a bailout.
@Bronze_Noon@dieDoktor I’m not pro drug bans. However, I am also not a fan of the cartels or mafia.
Those were just examples. The money could be sourced from: human trafficking, extortion, fencing stolen goods, bribery, fraud, robbery, elder scams. Plus attempts to fund terrorists or avoid sanctions.
@Bronze_Noon@dieDoktor If I sell a ton of drugs or run an illegal gambling ring the cash I receive is “my money,” yes. In the sense that I didn’t steal it from anybody.
Despite this, the government does not want it to be easy for me to launder that cash into a bank account. That’s why.
@PanasonicDX4500 “Stop being an annoying wokescold. You’re acting like a shitty joke is equivalent to executing women on stage, this attitude isn’t popular with voters.”
“OMG fuck you fascist! No, the smartest reaction to losing the culture war is to triple down, it cannot possibly backfire!”
@alwaysliquidd@ilikeadamsmith It is still too complex for them. They don’t understand the concept of a tragedy, let alone one having an underlying message. In their mind, a critique of capitalism must have a mustache twirling Scrooge, and an innocent, poor Tiny Tim or the movie is “contradictory”
@TheManDocSmurf@dieDoktor@Barbonius It’s not at all the same thing because there is no penalty for depositing over 10k. The cashier just needs to fill out a form which takes like two extra minutes.
It is only a “penalty” if you want to avoid questions about where the cash came from, and if that is the case…
@JoeOfTheSith@EndymionYT Because the devs want their games to be DEI and a bald black woman hits multiple points. She is a token for them, which doesn’t work if she’s voicing a non-black woman or an alien or something like that. You can tell they are even making her less feminine in some of these games.
@IceboxIsotope@axiochrono@heftycharge Google “antinomy vs other paradox types.”
The Fermi Paradox is a paradox. Your definition of paradox is incorrect. “Paradox” is a well defined term in philosophy and that definition is not up for debate, you are just operating with the wrong one. Ask grok and it will confirm.
@BlackmagicCrim@Qwerty_Soda With an interracial rape you have to fuck up the rapist or it makes your “people” look weak. If a white rapes another white it shows lack of control, that might result in punishment so regardless it is not as common as people expect. Chomo’s have little sympathy though.
@axiochrono@heftycharge The ship of Theseus is a paradox that exists in the material world. You just have an incorrect understanding of what “paradox” actually means. What you are describing is called an antimony, which is a specific type of paradox.
@Steve_Kicinski@MarketPalmer_ A lot of Ramsey’s advice is based on the fact that (most people) are not fully rational actors that follow through on what is “optimally correct.”
However, it is embarrassing to work in finance and not understand the basic concept Mark is explaining on a mathematical level.
@May_andrews_98@AdrianneCurry Because attractive men that wear revealing clothing (usually gay) are regularly groped by women. The idea that women don’t do this is fantasy cope. They absolutely get off on it. Talk to any gay man or former Abercrombie door greeter and they will tell you this is 100% accurate.
@number_pizza111 Because the middle class are the only ones punished for these infractions, and they know it. The welfare class has little to lose and they are handled with kid gloves by activist judges. The upper class can buy their way out of all non-violent crimes (and many violent ones).
@Steve_Kicinski@MarketPalmer_ It should be an objective math problem but in effect it’s a psychology one. The average person lacks diligence and impulse control. They will spend some of it, possibly without even noticing. This goes double for Ramsey’s audience so it is reasonable advice for them in practice.
