"Absenteeism" means absent for no good reason. @sflecce uses this term incorrectly (deliberately?) to refer to education workers who are absent for very good reasons — and a significant reason is illness due to the unmitigated spread of infections in ON schools. #CleanTheAir

Reminder: it's been well over a year since our contracts expired. One union has agreed to arbitration. The other unions are bargaining through Nov at least. No union has advised members to stop extras or work to rule. So who is holding kids "hostage" again? Negotiate! #OntEd
When teachers feel valued and their strengths are utilized, they are 6 times more engaged at school and 3 times more likely to say they have a high quality of life. Now imagine the amazing learning environment they create for their students. It's game changing!

Finish off the week strong and head into a restful and fun weekend!
Leaders, let your teachers and staff know you appreciate them. Tell them good morning and that you are glad they're there. Watch how little things change culture.
If education is really “all about the kids” then why do we:
*limit physical activity, play time, the arts, socialization
*focus on standardized tests as success
* give students little voice/input into learning
* focuses on their weaknesses not strengths
I hate parents that don’t talk to teachers first. They go straight to admin for things they could’ve emailed the teachers about.
It shows that you, as a parent, don’t see us as the professionals we are. So how is your student supposed to see us as professionals?
So good to see that Ontario is lowering the age for regular breast cancer screening from 50 to 40. We won’t need a doctor to get a mammogram as we’ll be able to self-refer.
“Today in Ontario, women in their 40s can get a mammogram if they have a doctor willing to write a referral. When the policy changes in a year, women in that age bracket will be able to refer themselves, regardless of whether they have a co-operating doctor or a doctor at all.”
The plan will take effect in the fall of 2024, and it is expected to result in an additional 130,000 women getting mammograms every year.
Kudos to all the advocates and researchers who made this happen!
