Felting to a retaining wall today, or spending tons of millions correcting damp issues in the future.

You see that wall? It’s called a retaining wall. A combination of cement, sand, granite, and reinforcement. With all those constituents, you’d think there’s no need to treat it for damp-proofing. But they still applied it anyway.

But then, you’ll see a building in a waterlogged area like Lagos, where the foundation type is strip or pad foundation with blockwork, and there is no proper Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) or Damp Proof Course (DPC) laid at all.

If a retaining wall made of reinforced concrete still requires damp-proofing treatment, what then is the excuse for a building sitting directly on blockwork in a waterlogged environment?
