I am trying to support the university where I am so that they can support students and staff that have different neurodevelopmental conditions. I am using the usual documents, but I am also looking for more specific practical examples π) Any ideas would be very valuable!!!π
Especially for people with any neurodevelopmental condition: I wonder if you could write some of the strategies or support that helps you if you are working, or when you are studying or strategies you may use at home to get organised, or to prioritise and be calm in generalπ.
@lifeinautism unfortunately yes, but those that I get to keep .. . are really forever friends. We do not communicate every day ... but I know they are my friends π«ππ
As part of a noble project due to the impact COVID-19 has had on the music industry, we are supporting #discoverbandsuk which promotes bands for free! This week: Urzah β Greedbather https://t.co/NBzrcezovp #music#supportingmusic#urzah

@SpectrumThis It eems these days have been difficult and it has accumulated. πTry to rest and gve yourself time to distance yourself from all the stress, even if just for a day. I hope you can give yourself the opportunity to do something you enjoy and helps you be well π«

@SaffiEriksdottr @TLJ_DNW You identified one answer yourself! great!π the staff are just not understanding enough. I used to get nervous and confused and I would be taken out all the time πalwasy 'ostracised' but I actuallly enjoyed that time and learned more on my own πBest wishes!π₯°
@SaffiEriksdottr @TLJ_DNW here is one of your answers πstaff need to be more autism-aware and autism-friendly, but you cannot control this unfortunately ... is there a professional around that could help?
@SaffiEriksdottr @TLJ_DNW OK teachers 'want him back' but maybe they could tailor the approach by ASKING HIM what would work for him (when he is ok). This agreement or rule is done together. Iit could be going back after xxminutes, receiving one step of instructions written at a time, communicate by text
@SaffiEriksdottr you are doing great, listsen to him, he is telling you the things as they are, it is true, there is no control in that moment for anyone (autistic or not) but for autistics, it can be also very scary and confusing π
@SaffiEriksdottr Thank you! many of us appreciate that from our parents, that tolerance, understanding and patience make a HUGE difference in our life! ππ
@SaffiEriksdottr Try involving a kind and experienced professional. Keep in mind that accepting the quirks, as long as they do not harm anyone, can help π and re-directing that energy to interests can help your child to gradually express (somehow) when feeling unwellπ You are doing very wellπ
@SaffiEriksdottr I am sorry that you and your child experienced that. There seems to be a lack of understanding from those that restrict. In autism and neurodevelopmental conditions, anger is not uncommon. Confusion and difficulties identifying when they are overwhelmed and why contribute to itπ
@SaffiEriksdottr If there are things that you have identified that your child perhaps reacts to (e.g., sudden sounds, witnessing conflict, receiving too many instructions simultaneously, aversive textures-food and clothes, etc.) perhaps you can gradually help by thinking with him what helps.
