Curriculum Institute day 1 began with beautiful reflection on how small shifts have made a big impact on our mathematicians this year. Thank you @Wipebook for helping us capture our thoughts and set new goals.
"Not only did my time in teacher training help me to realize how much I loved math, I also came to understand that for all students to see math the way I now did, accessibility was key." https://t.co/u5duHqmWYA
We're not the only ones excited about the Curriculum Blueprint! Last night at the @gcasd_k12 School Board Meeting, the curriculum team shared their progress. Watch: https://t.co/NB0QUi5c7M. Can you hear the enthusiasm? #collaboration#curriculum https://t.co/jeQmZM6LyL
K Standards require kids to count to 100. But only have to write numbers to 20 and compare numbers to 10. So they don't have to have ANY understanding of numbers above 20. But they still have to recite the names of the numbers 21-100 in order. That's 153 words in a row. Why?
Teachers, I'm done with draft 1 of I Survived 22 & want to share chapters 1-2 with students. I'll choose two classes/schools for 30-minute zooms. Eager to share, get feedback, and discuss writing with your young critics! Best for grades 3-8. RT to enter. I will notify by 2/14.
@brainingcamp I love the automation so students can visualize what happens when you have ten-ones and it makes a ten or when you creat zero pairs with Algebra tiles. So many kids have light bulbs go off at these moments.
Happy Monday! Taught 6 student lessons today. I'm thinking to myself, with all the schools struggling to stay open, I'd love to make them available to everyone.
Join a recorded lesson with your students any time this Friday. They won't know it's not live! https://t.co/qidcaskC9T
I think that we spend too much time teaching skills that are instantly useless because of technology. I wonder what might happen if we still taught number sense but didn't teach the procedures that a calculator can do. https://t.co/YSUKqIDTkf #iteachmath
.@MacKidsBooks has teamed up with Costco to create collector’s editions of a few of my books. They're enormous and lovely and available now.
I'm giving away 1 signed, personalized set. RT + follow to enter. I'll select & notify a winner tomorrow, 12/7, @ 2PM PT. #mglit#giveaway
1 of 3 easy moves to build thinking classrooms. The others? Implement a thinking task in the first 5 minutes of class & vertical work surfaces around the room. Any grade level can do this and the results are eye opening.
Looking to get kids arguing about math? Check out https://t.co/ngm1GbDg8o from John Stevens. Lots of great "Would you rather..." scenarios that require math to win the argument.
