Well done to @FWAbiKay for writing this.
As an industry we’re often bad at holding a mirror up to our own faults. This is an important piece on an important issue. If this is a true reflection of some of the behaviour in NFYFC then it must change.
I’ve seen this on the film
Loads of people don’t know this stuff - you can plant the right trees in a boggy field and have MORE grazeable grass afterwards than before
We’ve found this with alders in rushy places it’s not trees OR food
Useful EFRA committee session on flooding on Tuesday: https://t.co/OTTBTJqN6r
Clear calls for more capacity & skills at local level - including 'nature engineers' & advice for farmers.
Good to hear @CIWEM work mentioned!

The hidden cost of 'dredging'. Farmer 'A' up stream clears debris along a 'stretch' of his river, reducing flooding incidents there. The power and velocity of the water getting to Farmer 'B' downstream is eroding the bank at an alarming rate and causing his farm to shrink!
The #newsletter has dropped & as well as write ups about all our brilliant #previewscreenings, it includes important info about our new #communityscreening booking system using global platform @KinemaHQ . Follow the link to find out more https://t.co/yFzEqMNMUZ #kinema

We have 5km of becks, every bit has potential to be a great nature habitat/improve water quality/mitigate flooding.
Farming will be a big part of the solution if we think smarter 💪

Good to see proactive approaches to flood management and a nice contrast to calls for blanket dredging of rivers. BBC News - Euston Estate farmer allows land to flood to protect Thetford

We welcomed Environment Secretary @SteveBarclay to Darent Valley Landscape Recovery Project yesterday with farmers @KentDownsNL @SE_Rivers_Trust & @EnvAgency & explained the need for clarity & long-term funding from @DefraGovUK to help nature recovery.

Last night I watched @BylineTV documentary ‘The Truth about Brexit: Britain Betrayed
Very different from other docs. It’s a must watch
Heartbreaking personal stories & insightful commentary. I dare anyone to watch & not conclude Brexit betrayed us all

Right animals for the right place
We haven’t fed any concentrates to our ewes for two years - and minimal hay
Haven’t fed or jabbed a cow since 2015 - cows are easier to do low inputs with
We used to house 200 plus cattle I wouldn’t have believed anyone that said anything else was possible… you couldn’t pay me to house a cow now
Tried both ways
1100ft up in one of the wettest places in England with a short growing season, and still works
Have just completed post-flood survey. All looks good. Spillway needs some armouring but everything worked as expected. Ready for the next flood! Nature-based approaches working #NbS@SloWaters_Ire
Big favour to ask folks.
Please can we get this shared far and wide. We are looking for a positive, forward thinking person to teach Ag in Cumbria. Don’t worry if you’re not a teacher. If it’s tickled your fancy before just give the team a shout.
