Kenya Red Cross continues to strengthen the capacity of its Aqua Search and Rescue (A-SAR), ensuring responders are ready to act fast and effectively during mass water related emergencies.

A-SAR team comprising of members from the Lower Eastern, Central, and Western Kenya has successfully completed a three-day training on boat handling, navigation and use for water rescue missions.

The training focused on practical, hands-on skills simulating real life emergency situations.

This exercise is part of ongoing Preparedness for Effective Response (PER) activities aimed at enhancing the Red Cross Action Teams (RCATs) aqua rescue capabilities in Kenya.

Today, a team from the County Government of Machakos led a comprehensive cleanup exercise at Joska Market, focusing on clearing drainage systems and collecting litter to restore cleanliness and order in the trading area. The initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to promote a safe, healthy, and dignified working environment for traders and all residents.

I extend my sincere appreciation to the Kenya Red Cross Society and the volunteers who joined hands with us in this noble exercise. Your support and commitment continue to make a meaningful difference in keeping our markets clean, safe, and conducive for business.
This exercise will now take place every Tuesday and Friday across Kangundo - Tala Municipality.

From time to time, our responders take part in different simulation exercises alongside multi-agency teams.

These simulations range from road traffic accidents and fire outbreaks to conflict scenarios. They help our teams sharpen their skills, strengthen coordination, and stay ready for any emergency.

By training together, we ensure that when real emergencies happen, our responders can act quickly, safely and seamlessly with other agencies to save lives.

This is the state of the only water source in Keleswa village, Samburu North. The next one is 36 km away.

As part of our drought response, we supported 500 families and a nearby school with food relief and provided water treatment chemicals, turning unsafe water into safe drinking water.

The situation may worsen, with forecasts pointing to below-average rainfall in the October–December season.

That is the forecast for the Oct-Nov-Dec rainfall season.
