Thanks to Reuters for this piece highlighting how the IFRC network is supporting communities at the centre of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where building trust is essential.
Supported by the @IFRC, Red Cross volunteers are going door to door to share trusted health information, counter misinformation, and encourage early care-seeking, critical work that helps reduce the spread of Ebola. https://t.co/CdyI4wOgIW
Today is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
Today, we celebrate the volunteers and staff who show up every day, bringing compassion, dignity and hope, and working to ensure that even in the darkest moments, humanity is never lost.
They are often the first to arrive and the last to leave, supporting their own communities with courage and care.
Today, we celebrate the power of being United in Humanity. #8May

To deliver anticipatory action at scale, it must become an integral part of national disaster risk management systems. This requires anticipatory action to be integrated in:
- Legal & policy frameworks
- Forecasting & early warning capacities
- Disaster risk financing instruments
- Operational preparedness & response plans
When these pathways are strengthened together, countries can reliably anticipate and mitigate hazards before disasters strike.

Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Khairoonisa Molu, the longest-surviving member of the Kenya Red Cross until her passing, with over seventy years of dedicated service, beginning when it was known as the Kenya Branch of the @BritishRedCross.
Mrs. Molu's contributions were vast and impactful. She served as a secretary at the Kenya Red Cross Mombasa branch, volunteering her time and skills for many years before retiring.
She was widely known for her philanthropic services, earning her the HSC from former President Daniel Arap Moi.
Some of these services included catering to and providing food to prisoners at Shimo La Tewa Prison in Mombasa, along with offering Tracing Services and Restoration of Family Links, all as a dedicated volunteer of the Kenya Red Cross.
Every World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8, Mrs. Molu organized a party for children, the poor, including orphans and those with disabilities. She also catered to the elderly in Mombasa's nursing homes.
Mrs. Molu was revered for her mentorship, guiding numerous Kenya Red Cross staff and volunteers, including former Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr. @Abbas_Gullet.
Together with her husband, she fundraised to build the property of the Kenya Red Cross Mombasa branch in the 1970s, despite the unfortunate incident of breaking her leg during fundraising activities while traveling across the country for this noble cause.
Her commitment and dedication as a Red Cross member were unmatched. Mrs. Khairoonisa Molu passed away at the age of 93, leaving behind a profound legacy of service and compassion.
