"As humanitarians, we spend our lives responding to emergencies and communicating about disasters. But we are just normal people. We are not immune to the trauma, the panic, or the losses that people around us are facing. And yet, we keep going. Because there is no other choice."
On 8 April 2026, Black Wednesday, over 150 airstrikes struck Lebanon in ten minutes. 357 people were killed. 1,223 injured.
The events of that day profoundly affected the lives of people working to help others. Lama @chidiac_la19600, from @IFRC in Beirut, Lebanon, is one of them. She tells her story about that day, when time stood still as she tried to locate her family. 👉https://t.co/Jmc6MAOiYT
Following the latest wave of attacks in Ukraine, @RedCrossUkraine teams are supporting affected communities with first aid, psychosocial support and emergency assistance.
The @IFRC continues to support these efforts, helping humanitarian aid reach those who need it most.
A medida que las temperaturas globales siguen aumentando, las olas de calor, un asesino silencioso y mortal, se están volviendo más extremas.
Abordar la creciente amenaza global de las olas de calor es una prioridad para la IFRC.
As extreme heat intensifies globally, its impact is not limited to those outdoors. This year’s Heat Action Day highlights a growing and often overlooked risk: indoor heat.
On Unguja Island in Zanzibar, volunteers from the Tanzania Red Cross Society @trcs1962 are working with students to raise awareness about heat-related risks and how to stay safe. These efforts are part of a wider heatwave awareness campaign led by the Tanzania Red Cross in early 2026, reaching more than 4,000 people across schools, madrasas, markets, and communities.
Across the globe, our @IFRC network teams are taking action to protect communities from extreme heat, including the hidden dangers people face indoors. https://t.co/GPG8DuSVBO
Today is Heat Action Day, a global day initiated by the @IFRC, for raising awareness of heat risks.
Action on extreme heat is a priority for the @IFRC network. By 2030, we seek to protect 100 million people from heat.
Together, let us join our forces to beat the heat.
Heat Action Day bring communities together worldwide to tackle the growing threat of extreme heat. This year's theme, indoor heat, puts the spotlight on the health risks people face inside their homes, schools, workplaces, and care facilities.
As the organization that created Heat Action Day, the @IFRC each year encourages people to take concrete action to prevent heat related illness and death.
Here are some life-saving tips to protect yourself and others from indoor heat. #BeatTheHeat
Today is Heat Action Day. Rising extreme heat is a threat to people and the planet.
Through its Global Climate Resilience Platform, the @IFRC aims to protect 100M people in 100 cities, with a target of mobilizing CHF 500M to address extreme heat where it strikes hardest by 2030.
Heatwaves can be deadly.
On this #HeatActionDay, we celebrate the incredible work of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers across Africa who are raising awareness and sharing simple ways to #BeatTheHeat.
In Burkina Faso, between April and May, as temperatures rose, @CroixRougeBF reached over 40,000 people in five major towns with life-saving heat safety information, including elderly people and pregnant women.
In coordination with the Ministry of Health, more than 700 people were also referred to health facilities — helping protect those most at risk.
Today, @ifrc is globally marking #HeatActionDay
In Cameroon’s Far North, extreme heat & #foodinsecurity are putting vulnerable communities at greater risk.
Simple actions like drinking water regularly, cooling the body with water, and wearing light clothing can help stay safe.

Today is Heat Action Day, a global initiative led by the @IFRC to raise awareness and take action on the growing threat of extreme heat
More than 500,000 people die each year from heat-related causes, yet it remains a silent crisis.
Through the IFRC’s Extreme Heat Initiative, we are helping communities prepare for and adapt to extreme heat. Resources must reach local communities, and local actors must be empowered to lead. Governments, businesses and communities all have a role to play.
We can no longer afford to look away. Extreme heat is here, and it is deadly. Let’s act now and #BeatTheHeat together.
Scaling up response means moving closer to where needs are greatest.
Today, @IFRC and @Croix_Rouge_RDC surge teams travelled from Bunia to Mongbwalu, at the centre of the evolving #Ebola outbreak in Ituri, to strengthen readiness, coordination, and scale up community-based response efforts.
With @ICRC complementarity, teams are reinforcing surveillance, community engagement, trusted information, and safe and dignified burials to help contain transmission from the earliest stages.
In complex environments, effective response depends on acting early, staying close to communities, and working coherently across the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

When fear spreads faster than facts, outbreaks become even harder to contain.
The @IFRC is warning that misinformation and mistrust are making it more difficult to contain the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
False information can discourage people from seeking treatment, reporting symptoms, and participating in contact tracing, allowing transmission to continue.
Accurate information saves lives. Together, we can stop rumors from fueling the spread of disease.

Today is Heat Action Day.
As global temperatures continue to rise, heatwaves, an already silent and deadly killer, are becoming more extreme. Addressing the rising global threat of heatwaves is a priority for the @IFRC.
As the IFRC continues to prepare and adapt communities to this already changing climate,
we call on world leaders to take decisive action to protect vulnerable communities worldwide.
We all have a role to play. Join us, and let’s beat the heat together.
“Safe and dignified burials are a critical line of defense in stopping the spread of Ebola.”
Speaking to @cgtnafrica, Cate Kamatu highlights that the management of deceased individuals is among the highest-risk activities during an Ebola outbreak, as bodies remain highly infectious after death.
Effective outbreak control depends not only on safe and dignified burial practices, but also on strong community engagement to build trust, encourage early reporting, and support the adoption of lifesaving health measures.
The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continue to escalate, with cases and deaths continuing to rise as the virus spreads across multiple provinces and into neighboring Uganda.
With the support of the @IFRC, teams from @Croix_Rouge_RDC are on the ground providing life-saving assistance.
The @IFRC Emergency Appeal for 29 million Swiss Francs, will help support the scale-up of community engagement, surveillance, safe and dignified burials, infection prevention, cross-border coordination and readiness activities. https://t.co/1o2eLhtN5w
“Epidemics start and end in communities. What is urgently required is scaling up the work at the community level and this is what the DRC Red Cross and the @IFRC are doing.”
Speaking to @BBCNews from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dr Petra Khoury @petra_khoury, Global Health Director at the IFRC, warned that the outbreak remains out of control and called for urgent investment in locally led response.
She highlighted the critical role of DRC Red Cross @Croix_Rouge_RDC volunteers, who are engaging communities door to door, sharing trusted health information, and helping counter misinformation in an extremely challenging environment.
As Dr Khoury underlined, outbreak response cannot rely on cycles of panic. Long-term investment in community preparedness and resilient health systems is essential to prevent crises from escalating.
Cash distributions are a first step to food resilience as communities across several regions in Cameroon still suffer from food insecurity. @CroixRougeCam & @ifrc teams are in the field to ensure families receive the help and support they most urgently need.
