Note on SHG and SHE Mart

Self Help Groups (SHGs) have emerged as one of the most effective grassroots mechanisms for women’s economic empowerment, rural entrepreneurship, and community-based development in India. Through collective savings, micro-credit access, skill development, and local enterprise creation, SHGs have enabled lakhs of women to become financially independent and socially empowered. Under the framework of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), SHGs are increasingly being integrated into formal value chains, digital commerce, food processing, handicrafts, agriculture-allied activities, and local retail systems.

SHE Mart is an important initiative aimed at providing market linkage and branding support to SHG-produced goods. The concept focuses on creating dedicated retail and exhibition platforms where products made by women-led SHGs — including handicrafts, handloom items, processed foods, organic products, traditional art, household products, and rural innovations — can be showcased and sold directly to consumers. The initiative helps eliminate middlemen, improve profit margins for rural producers, and create a sustainable ecosystem for women entrepreneurship.

SHE Mart also serves as a platform for financial inclusion, digital literacy, packaging improvement, branding, and business training for SHG members. By connecting SHGs with government departments, urban consumers, e-commerce channels, CSR initiatives, and institutional buyers, the model strengthens rural livelihoods and supports the broader objective of inclusive economic growth. 30-31 मार्च 2026 को आयोजित इस किसान कुंभ के उद्घाटन सत्र के दौरान NDDB और World Cooperative Economic Forum (@WCopEF ) के बीच एक महत्वपूर्ण समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर किए गए। इस समझौते के अंतर्गत किसान-केंद्रित गतिविधियों को बढ़ावा देने, कंप्रेस्ड बायो-गैस (CBG) जैसे नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा समाधानों को अपनाने, कार्बन ट्रेडिंग में भागीदारी बढ़ाने तथा भारत के सहकारी मॉडल को वैश्विक स्तर पर आगे ले जाने का प्रयास किया जाएगा।
