I taught JEE physics for years. That paper breaks strong kids in three hours.
This exam is five hours of theory and five hours of lab work, and these five did close to perfect scores on it.
Let me tell you what actually happened.
The International Physics Olympiad is the world championship of school physics. It was the 56th edition. Held in Bucaramanga, Colombia, from July 5 to 12.
381 students. More than 85 countries. Every one of them the best physics student their country could find.
India sent five kids.
All five came back with gold.
Their names are Kanishk Jain from Pune. Riddhesh Anant Bendale from Indore. Rishit Garg from Dwarka in Delhi. Shresth Suraiya from Mumbai. Svarit Joshi from Ahmedabad.
We know a hundred cricketers by their nickname and not one of these boys. :)
That clean sweep put India at joint World Number One. Tied with China, Russia, Kazakhstan, South Korea and Taiwan.
Those are countries that pour serious money and national pride into science education. We are standing level with them.
Now here is what the exam actually was.
Two papers. Each five hours long.
The theory paper had three problems. One on the thermodynamics of paramagnetic cooling. One on the photoionisation of ozone. One on the dynamics of electron positron pairs.
The experimental paper was another five hours in a lab, working through heat transfer and thermodynamic processes in fluids.
That means you get given equipment you have never seen, and you have to design your own experiment, take your own readings, handle the errors, and reach a real answer.
Not multiple choice. No shortcuts. No pattern recognition. You either understand physics or you sit there for five hours.
HBCSE says the Indian students were near perfect on theory and excellent on the practical too.
Now, this was India's 27th appearance at the IPhO.
Across all those years, about 44 percent of Indian students have won gold, 41 percent silver, 10 percent bronze.
In the last ten years, every single Indian student has come home with a medal. 62 percent gold, 38 percent silver.
Not one kid has gone and come back empty handed in a decade.
Five golds in one year has happened only twice. This year, and in 2018.
So who built this.
The programme is run by HBCSE, the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. It sits under TIFR, which sits under the Department of Atomic Energy.
They run the whole funnel. A national exam, then a national olympiad, then a brutal selection and training camp, and out of everyone in the country, five kids get on a plane.
The team was led by Professor Anwesh Mazumdar of HBCSE-TIFR and Dr Leena Joshi from St Xavier's College, Mumbai.
The scientific observers were Professor Ananda Dasgupta from IISER Kolkata and Nisha Kelkar from Gogate-Joglekar College in Ratnagiri.
Yes. Ratnagiri. A college in a small coastal town in Maharashtra.
This is public education doing something the private coaching industry could never do on its own.
The coaching industry is very good at one thing. Teaching you to solve a known problem fast.
That is what JEE and NEET reward, and I say that with love because I was part of that world.
But an olympiad paper does not have a known type. There is no shortcut chapter. There is no formula sheet that saves you. You have to sit with a problem you have never seen and think.
That is a completely different muscle. And a government funded centre has been quietly building it in Indian teenagers for 27 years.
So yes, be proud. Loudly.
HBCSE also shared that around 64 percent of India's olympiad medallists go on to do a PhD.
But only about 32 percent of medallists end up settling in India.
I do not say that to spoil the moment. These kids owe the country nothing. They earned every option they have.
But it should tell us something. We are excellent at finding this talent. We are excellent at training it. We are still not great at giving it somewhere worth staying.
Congratulations Kanishk, Riddhesh, Rishit, Shresth and Svarit. This is one of the best things an Indian did this year and most of the country will never hear about it.
Men take constant heat for spending less time doing chores at home. People call it entitlement.
But the truth is much simpler: most guys just do not care if the house looks like a showroom. A little dust or clutter simply does not bother them the same way.
There is a psychological difference in how men & women categorize their mental load.
If wife demands a spotless space and the husband is fine with a basic tidy up, it's because men have higher tolerance to a little messiness.
Having different standards for cleanliness is not a crime. Let men breathe without making everything a moral failing.
The Western idea of teenagers working in cafes makes zero macroeconomic sense in India.
First there is absolutely no need for it.
India is a labor surplus economy. Western cafes hire 16 yr due to a severe shortage of cheap adult labor. Here millions of adults desperately need these entry level service jobs to feed their families.
Allocating a cafe job to a teenager for pocket money when an adult needs it for basic survival is socially and economically tone deaf.
Second the wage economics completely fail here. Because unskilled labor is abundant the market wage is incredibly low.
A teenager’s time is their absolute highest ROI asset. In our hyper competitive, developing economy, their sole economic utility should be human capital formation studying, clearing exams, and building specialized skills.
Blindly importing a Western model built for labor scarce economies isn't progressive, it's just bad economics.
That's what atleast i think......
Not getting married and not having children feels like a great decision when you are 30
But you learn that it was a poor decision when you are 50
I see it all the time with clients.
Guys will make millions over their life and have nothing to do with it.
Most psychologically normal people get over collecting material possessions pretty quickly.
There is only so much you can travel before it starts to feel the same and quite frankly, very exhausting.
There is just not much to do with human life if you don't have children
Unless of course you're a scientific genius like Tesla or Einstein, which none of us reading this are
My wife is a couch potato.
I am fitness freak.
I don’t care about her weight as long as she is not unhealthy. I have never said anything to her about her weight or appearance.
But as I got leaner. She constantly got compliments from her friends about me. That acted as indirect trigger. Not from insecurity. She loved me when I was fat AF. She knows in her heart I will always love her no matter what. She also knows I like chubby women. 😉
She also started taking more care of her. She stopped eating junk food on her own. She eats more healthy food. She started being more active.
I personally don’t like protein powders. But she basically fought with me to order protein for her.
This is a message for all people in relationships and single adults.
NAGGING NEVER WORKS WHEN IT COMES TO SELF IMPROVEMENT OR FITNESS.
You want to inspire your partner ?
Be a role model for them. Be there when they actually decide to take action. Nobody wants to be fat . We all give excuses but we know the reality in our hearts. Let the nature take its course.
We were the hot couple at relative’s wedding. Giving the bride and groom tough competition. 😍
She aspires to get a bikini body and abs one day.
While the whole country is debating petrol-ethanol, the bros from Madhya Pradesh have already pulled off what is arguably India's first major ethanol scam, not counting you know who.
There is a govt policy that surplus rice in govt warehouses can be sold to ethanol manufacturers at subsidised rates to prevent it from rotting.
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, the scam began when some officials allegedly (willingly?) ignored the rules and allocated "newly procured" fortified rice (not even regular rice, but fortified rice) for ethanol production. The rice, bought at a high price (₹4,000 per quintal), was sold at a throwaway price (₹2,320 per quintal) to ethanol plants.
The ethanol plant operators allegedly knew it was fortified rice, so instead of using it to make ethanol, they sold it to rice millers at ₹2,800 per quintal, and instead bought cheap broken rice (₹2,100 per quintal) from the open market for ethanol production, making an overall profit of ₹700 per quintal.
The rice millers allegedly repacked the fortified rice in new gunny bags and supplied it back to the govt as freshly milled rice. The govt paid them milling charges, while the govt supplied paddy they were actually supposed to mill was allegedly sold in the open market for another round of profit.
So the same bag of rice allegedly kept changing hands: govt warehouse to ethanol plant to rice mill to back to govt warehouse. Everyone in the chain allegedly made money.
The MP govt formed an SIT. So far, four people have been arrested and 12 trucks seized. Investigators suspect that up to 50 lakh quintals of govt rice, worth around ₹1,160 crore, may have been diverted through this alleged racket.
My uncle is a builder who had nearly 120 unsold flats, each priced at ₹80 lakh.
The real estate market had slowed down.
Buyers wanted discounts.
But instead of cutting prices, he tried something different.
He launched a Rent-to-Own model.
The offer was simple:
• Move into the flat today. • Pay ₹25,000/month as rent for 3 years. • If you decide to buy the flat later, 100% of the rent you've already paid is adjusted as your down payment.
This scheme attracted many small income families.
Few years later…
Around 90% of tenants chose to purchase their homes.
Nishant is 32 years old. He makes 65 LPA, works in Google. He is dating Soumya. She is 30 years old. She makes 50 LPA and works in Oracle.
They both vibe with each other, have shared hobbies, mutual life goals, complementary lifestyles, common values, supportive families and hence they decide to marry. They marry for companionship, and to have a family of their own someday.
They stay separate from their parents, in Bengaluru, in a rented 2BHK in a plush gated society, without any interference from any in-laws. They contribute to finances and expenses equally. They hire a maid and cook for the chores. Their life is sorted.
The first 2 months go on smoothly. They go on their honeymoon to Iceland, and enjoy their time together.
And then small fights and friction starts to happen from the 3rd month onwards.
> Nishant has gained weight due to erratic eating. Soumya keeps telling him to workout more and lose it fast. He is doing his best, but she nags him daily.
> Nishant goes on a work trip for 2 days and when he comes back, he finds that the clothes he washed, are still in the washing machine, and she didn't put it to dry.
> Nishant takes Soumya out for dinner on his birthday. He wants to have an ocassional drink, but Soumya schools him. She tells him not to. He doesn't drink, but they still end up fighting.
> Soumya wants to talk everyday about her work & office with Nishant in the evening. But Nishant wants some quiet time. He wants to detach from office work after work hours. They again fight over this.
> The tension from their fights seep into the bedroom and physical intimacy dies. They cuddle, they kiss. But they couldn't have sex. Nishant starts to have performance anxiety. He couldn't get it up. He is being evaluated by Soumya all the time in his marriage, and he starts to feel that pressure in the bed.
> Nishant explains to Soumya what's happening. He over-explains. She listens, but only to retaliate, not to understand. She steps away from the fight because too much over explanation gives her stress and she can't handle it.
> He wants the fights to stop. He wants to resolve the situation. So, he can't fathom why is she avoiding the situation. That why is she running away from tough conversations.
> Eventually, she leaves the shared home, and starts to live separately. They try to connect, they try to resolve, but the same patterns re-appear. Even their parents couldn't make them reconcile.
> Eventually, they get divorced.
So, what happened here?
Disrespect?
Abuse?
Toxicity?
Who was at fault?
Nishant?
Soumya?
Well, what's at fault here is that Nishant expected a man in Soumya's body, and Soumya expected a woman in Nishant's body.
That's how they communicated with each other. An avoidant attachment personality (Soumya) married an anxious attachement personality (Nishant). Everything looked hunky dory in the beginning, but when life showed them the mirror, their deeply suppressed wounds broke open and laid bare their core personas.
And this is the fundamental reason, why many marriages are failing these days. People expect their partners to think like them, speak like them, act like them. But how is that possible?
A man's wiring won't become like a woman's.
A woman's wiring won't become like a man's.
We all spend so many years of our lives, studying for our careers.
How much time do we really spend to get ready for married life?
Do any of us take pre-marriage coaching, do we read psychology books, do we do a course in understanding the psyche of opposite gender? 99% people don't.
Then, how do you expect marriages to survive? How do you even put in the work, if you don't know what's the right direction of that work?
The need for marriages have changed. The modern needs aren't black & white like traditional gender roles (for survival). The modern needs warrant pre-marriage preparation (for effective companiosnship).

Finally, people have started saying enough to this VIP culture. You hardly see this level of roadblocks in most countries. Here, every other day there’s a new VIP, traffic is stopped, ambulances wait, and thousands of people are expected to just keep waiting.
📍 Gwalior
In a capitalist world, everyone should have a fair say about their thoughts and expressions.
There's nothing wrong in her statement, don't know why people are getting offended
Shame on Madhuri Ashneer Grover. Her statement is elitism at its ugliest, reducing human beings to their bank balance & implying that dignity, family &right to reproduce belong only to the rich. So, Exploitation by the wealthy is never the problem only the existence of the poor is
“No mercy for those who harm daughters.”
This is the strong message from Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma.
In response to the brutal gangrape of a 13-year-old in Sri Ganganagar, all three hotels, Hotel Khungar, Joy Inn, and Hotel Safire, were demolished using bulldozers on the CM’s directions.
The state govt has vowed zero tolerance, promising strict legal action against the perpetrators and anyone who protects them. Under Bhajan Lal Sharma’s leadership, women’s and girls’ safety remains the top priority.
@amitkilhor Benefit is to government, 50 litres extra petrol with ₹5000 extra out of which 33% center govt takes as taxes and next 33% state govt. Baki import bill of oil nhi bacha vo utna hi lga
With 8 years of experience, someone said ,
If you wanna migrate to UAE , never settle for less than 30k AED per month,
And till that day, I haven't received a single call at all.
Is 30k AED too much???
The difference between Delhi, Mumbai and Bengalore is:
Delhi is worst in November due to pollution
Mumbai is worst in July- Aug because of rains
Bengalore is worst whole year round because of traffic🙂
@Portfolio_Bull According to your tweet, people will keep giving govt money in the name of registry, transfer charges, cyber charges , miscellaneous charges
