JUCO ISN’T A BACKUP PLAN. IT’S A STRATEGY. 🥎

I’ve had more conversations about junior college softball in the past year than I ever have before—with college coaches, parents, and athletes.

The recruiting landscape has changed.

Roster limits, the transfer portal, eligibility changes, and increased competition have created a different path to college softball than many families expected.

Because of that, it’s time to stop viewing JUCO as a “last resort.”

For many athletes, it can actually be one of the smartest decisions they make.

Here’s why:

✅ Continue developing physically and mentally before transferring.
✅ Gain valuable college playing experience.
✅ Improve your recruiting value by proving yourself at the collegiate level.
✅ Earn an associate degree while keeping the door open to move on to a four-year school.
✅ Save thousands of dollars in tuition.
✅ Find a better long-term fit instead of forcing the wrong commitment.

I’ve spoken with coaches at every level, and many are relying more on JUCO transfers because they’re recruiting athletes who already have college experience.

That doesn’t mean high school recruiting has disappeared—it hasn’t.

It means families need to understand that there are now multiple successful paths to reaching their goals.

The destination hasn’t changed.

The road to get there has.

Don’t let pride, outdated perceptions, or the opinions of others prevent you from considering an opportunity that could be the best fit for your future.

The goal isn’t to say you played college softball. The goal is to build a college experience that sets you up for success—for four years and beyond.
