It was great to see @Coach_Dollar at the Roosevelt game on Saturday. Bonus, his youngest son, Jason, a freshman, scored his first scored his first varsity points.
Sunday message... I'm an emotional wreck.
Why? Because it's all chasing after the wind.
Today, while walking my dog before heading to church, I ran into my neighbor Brian. His work van was missing from his driveway, and I'd heard rumors that he'd retired.
But there's more to the story. Brian has a lung disease. After 30 years in construction and breathing in bad air, his lungs are failing, and the doctors don't know how to treat it. He looked lost, sad, and broken.
I told him I'm a praying man and asked if he would mind if I prayed for him. He said yes. So, there we stoodโtwo grown men, in tears, asking God to intervene, to do what only He can do. To comfort, to heal, to walk with us through the valley of the shadow of death. The Lord is there.
Leaving Brian, I was hit by a profound realization.
This life is like chasing after the wind (go read the book of Ecclesiastes).
I often worry about things that, in the grand scheme, don't matter. Football scores, records, recruiting, winning. Work problems, policies, revenue, upset people. Even family misunderstandings, desires, wants.
Most of it is just chasing after the wind.
That brief interaction with my neighbor recalibrated my compass.
My eyes are now fixed on Jesus, loving my wife, caring for my kids and grandkids, and truly loving my neighbor.
Everything else is just chasing after the wind.
How about you? Are you chasing after the wind or are your priorities straight focused on what is good and worthy of your time and energy?
This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!
