I share this story every so often. When I finished middle school, I was zoned for two different high schools. I could pick. I was obsessed with football so of course that weighed heavily on my decision. One had a great reputation and one needed rebuilding.
They kept winning – all the way to the state semifinal where they finally met their match. But again, I knew what we had done and what they had done…was special. Pride in the team and school spirit restored. Also, countless valuable lessons that we all got to take with us.
Opinion: Simply sharing game knowledge is not coaching…it’s consulting. Helpful? Absolutely. Not to be confused for coaching though. If someone says, “the players just aren’t getting it. It’s probably because the players have not been coached. They’ve been talked at.
