Nick Saban explains why you're not entitled to anything in life.
"You get up every day, you're entitled to: Nothing."
"Nothing is acceptable, but your best."
You get what you earn in life. That's it.
No one owes you success, opportunity or playing time. Those are things you earn.
Show up, do the work, and earn it every day - not because you're told to, but because that's the standard you hold yourself to.
Your thoughts drive what you want - your actions drive what you get.
The gap between the two? That's where most people fail.

What are you doing to show your students/players that you believe in them?
Taking it easy on them/doing it for them shows you do not believe they are capable.
The higher the expectation the higher the belief in them!

Coaching is about more than wins/losses.
Can you inspire a group to strive for and expect more from themselves in all avenues of life.
The classroom, the community, their homes, the field/court. It is all connected.

Michael Jordan started baseball when he was six years old, but he didn’t start basketball until he was 12 years old.
You’re not going to “get behind” in your “fav” sport by playing multiple sports. If anything you’ll get better at your respective sport because of the skill development when you play and compete in a variety of sports.
Athletes who play multidirectional sports such as basketball or soccer in youth had better bone structure and strength than those who solely ran, swam or cycled.
This is why we do not want athletes to specialize in one sport. You will have stronger bones and lower risk of injury playing multiple sports!
The more rules you have, the more rules will inevitably be broken.
Hold them to a standard/an expectation that they participate in crafting and maintaining.
Your rules should be the non-negotiables.

The difference between success and failure comes down to the expectations and the standards that you are held to.
Raise the standards. Raise the expectations. Improve the outcomes.

"I appreciate guys that lay it on the line.
Maybe you're outnumbered.
Maybe you're not the most talented.
Maybe the odds are against you and nobody believes in you.
I respect the hell out of those guys that will fight.
That's what we're about." -Dan Campbell
Winners believe in who they are.
The Cleveland Browns tried to destroy Baker Mayfield’s NFL career and reputation after he helped them end the NFL’s longest post season drought and win their first playoff game in 26 years.
They said they wanted an “adult” in the room.
Now Baker is the Franchise QB for the Tampa Bay Bucs after playing for the Panthers and the Rams during a 2 year sabbatical.
He never gave up. He never lost sight of who he was. This year he threw for a career high in TD passes, passing yards, yards per attempt and Passer Rating and has the Bucs in the playoffs right now.
Turns out he was the “adult” in the room and Cleveland is still searching for their Franchise QB.

The fear when this system started: What happens after the initial excitement wears off and the students have all earned the reward they wanted?
The answer: Nothing, our students are still CRUSHING their coursework and assignments in class and going for big rewards and graduation!
