For me, it's the constant obsession with "learning" and "development" that we see daily online now.
And coaches are weaponising research in this area to beat other coaches over the head with.
"My way is the best way" is a real problem.
The reality is that learning and development are byproducts of PARTICIPATION, and who thinks that players who get berated for 60 minutes are going to keep participating long-term?
You can have the best development methodology in the world, backed by science and research, but only a small number of players to apply it to if you don't make it fun and keep them coming back.
The rest will walk away. They'll find something more fun, and I don't blame them at all.
The above is the fundamental problem in coaching these days, and hardly anyone provides any research on how to increase participation or how to fix the problem.
All we hear is learning this, development that, elite this, elite that, copy this, copy that.
We are so lost as an industry. It's unbelievable.
A study with over 70K people found those who obsess about being the best have much worse outcomes than those who are focused on being the best at getting better, and who define success on their own terms.
#Pitt alum and Pirates RHP Isaac Mattson has the MLB- longest streak without allowing a hit, after shutting down the six Cubs batters he faced in the seventh and eighth inning
30 batters consecutively without a hit
To get better, you have to struggle.
The way your body and mind learn, adapt, and grow is to be slightly embarrassed. That frustration is the signal that our brain/body needs to adjust.
If you want to learn and adapt, embrace the struggle.
When I was in high school, I ran over 13 miles a day.
Every day. For a year.
I was a teenager logging 90+ mile weeks.
No one made me do it. My parents would’ve begged me to back off.
It came from me.
Here’s what people get wrong about talent development, kids, parenting and success.
We have placed RHP Colin Holderman on the 15-day injured list, and selected the contract of RHP Isaac Mattson from Triple-A Indianapolis.
INF Nick Gonzales has been transferred from the 10- to 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster.
Please try to attend. We have tons of good food, beverages, basket raffle, major prize raffle, turtle races, tips, etc. We will be honoring this great man who dedicated his life to helping others through his image ability to teach and coach. Hope to see you there. DM me for tickets.
Be just as careful with what goes into your mind as you are with what goes into your body. What you read, watch, and listen to makes a great impact on your mental health and athletic performance.
