Sliding is not protection.
At no other point in life do we willingly hand responsibility for our safety to somebody else simply because there’s a rule telling them how they’re supposed to behave.
So why do we teach quarterbacks to do it?
When you slide, you’re trusting a defender running full speed, in the middle of competition, to perfectly control his body because the rulebook says he should.
Take control of your own safety.
Learn to attack defender halves.
Understand leverage. Choose which half of the defender you’re attacking. Get your body out of the direct collision path and create glancing blows instead of square contact.
Done correctly, you accomplish two things:
Protect yourself by avoiding direct, violent collisions.
Steal additional yards every time you finish a run.
This isn’t about being reckless. It’s the opposite.
It’s teaching quarterbacks how to control the contact instead of hoping the defender does it for them.
Don’t surrender your safety to the rulebook. Learn how to protect yourself.
Private Equity has fully encroached on Youth Sports.
They are preying on the fears of parents, convincing them that their kids are behind their peers, and forcing the kids to specialize WAY too early.
They manipulate parents into paying outrageous fees for travel teams, showcase tournaments, and bogus recruiting services.
Private Equity DOES NOT care about your kids.
They don't care about the development of young athletes.
They don't even care about sports at all.
They ONLY care about profit.
They worship the almighty dollar.
They will promise you the world while they shake you down for every penny.
Resist the grift. Push back on the lies.
HOT TAKE: Some adults need to stop talking kids out of Division III football.
“D3 doesn’t give athletic scholarships.”
“You’re going to go into debt.”
“Why would you play there if you can go D2?”
“You won’t get NIL”
Okay.
Now tell me the FINAL cost of attendance.
Tell me the academic aid package.
Tell me the grants.
Tell me the major.
Tell me the graduation rate.
Tell me what that degree can do for him.
Tell me what the D2 school actually costs AFTER the athletic scholarship.
Because a $15,000 athletic scholarship at one school can still leave a family paying more than a D3 school offering $0 in athletic money.
D3 isn’t automatically the right choice.
But neither is D1 or D2.
You dismissing an opportunity because of the division beside the school’s name is lazy recruiting advice.
Evaluate the opportunity and get an understanding of the whole picture
First, I stopped responding to people I don’t respect.
Then, I stopped trying to explain myself to people who benefit from misunderstanding me.
Finally, I stopped giving my attention to people I wouldn’t choose to sit across from at dinner.
Once you remove the noise, there really isn’t much left to respond to… because the people who matter aren’t the ones doing goofy shii.
To our TECH family, alumni and friends it’s saddens us to announce that our hall of fame coach and mentor WIN PARKINSON has passed away today. Coach Park was a huge staple in the Milwaukee city conference and state of Wisconsin with high school basketball.
