Our studio is based in Philly, & we wouldnât have it any other way. This city wears its heart on its sleeve just like us.
We created this poster to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation, and Philly's proud history of championing independence.

One of the most destructive myths in politics: Seniors have the opposite of a fixed income. They get inflation adjusted tax free income, subsidized healthcare, and access to retirement savings that if used properly should have compounded over decades
Imagine if Biden:
⢠Created a $1.8 billion slush fund to hand out to rioters who assaulted police officers
⢠Banned the IRS from auditing him, his family, and his companies
⢠Accepted a $400 million luxury jet from a foreign monarchy
Pardoned hundreds of people who assaulted police officers
⢠Openly promoted his own meme coin while in office
Had family members cutting international business deals while he was in office and directly profiting from them
⢠Repeatedly âjokedâ about staying in office past two terms
⢠Repeatedly praised Xi, Putin, and Kim Jong Un
The outrage would never end.
The fact that people are becoming numb to this level of corruption is insane.
I didnât realize this until I was in my 30s and tackling job of parenting three little kids out of a poorly-lit 1911 townhouse with a tiny yard and massive maintenance burdensâbut most city housing is terrible and also extraordinarily expensive. People who stay do it because they value urban amenities and convenience over housing quality.
But it doesnât need to be this way! There are urban design tweaks that could make housing so much better and lower cost!
There are a lot of weird things American homeowners simply accept:
- "I'm forced to spend hours maintaining an unproductive front yard instead of being able to use that area for more space or an interior courtyard"
- "My house should be the primary way I build wealth"
- "I need 2400 square feet"
- "I hate 'throwing money away on rent' but I'll spend more on interest than principal for the first 19 years of my 30-year mortgage"
- "We need a guest bedroom that's empty 99% of the time"
- "It makes perfect sense to pay tens of thousands of dollars in commissions for someone to sell my house"
- "I believe in property rights but it should be illegal for me to build on my own property"
- "My home renovation is an investment"
A lot of people spend more time watching Love is Blind than understanding the biggest purchase of their lives
I believe people are UNDER-estimating the cost and limiting effect on their lives of getting a dog before they get one.
And they are OVER-estimating the cost and complexity of having a baby.
And they are reaching this conclusion because they see so many dogs around and think "Can't be that hard. Everyone is doing it"
My hope is that someday, they see so many babies around they reach the same conclusion through the same reasoning.
Unironically, adding a walkable coffee shop and a pub to a suburban neighborhood would make them 10x more enjoyable and dynamic.
Imagine the run-ins youâd have every morning on your walk for coffee, or spontaneous games you watch with the dads at the pub.
Sounds kinda awesome.
The new LA Metro D Line will get you crosstown 17 minutes faster than driving during the AM rush, and thatâs why it will be wildly successful. Transit thatâs faster or as fast as driving is what will get car trips off LA streets!
The key to designing a Starter House for FAMILIES?
Small secondary bedrooms
Bedrooms*just* large enough for kids, but not so large to inflate the size (and therefore price) of the home
Our goal @americanhousing is to get 3-4 bedrooms in 1200-1600sf rowhomes
I love this idea from @jasonfried
"Your only competition is your costs."
Keep costs low, keep the team small, make stuff you want to use. You don't need the whole world:
âA business is very simple. You got to make more than you spend. If you're making more than you spend, then your competition is your cost.
That's what you're really in business against, how much it costs you to stay in business.
It's not all the other alternatives that are on the market.
You can't control what they're going to put out there, what they're going to price it at, all the things they're going to do. They're going to do what they're going to do.
What I can control is how much it costs me to run my business, how much I sell my product for, and as long as I make more than I spend, I get to stay in business.
And isn't that what this is all about, staying in business?
That's what it's all about because I like this. I want to keep doing this. I can't keep doing it if I don't stay in business.
I can't keep doing it if I make less than it costs me to make the things that I make.
So I'm always thinking about the only competition I really have on an annual basis is to make sure that we make more as a company than it costs us to run the company.
That's my real competition.â
You donât have to subscribe to this limiting view of masculinity
- Itâs OK to experiment with your style (doesnât make you âgayâ)
- Talking about your feelings opens up powers you cannot anticipate â connection, ownership, and deep growth.I wasnât raised being in touch with emotions. My therapist noticed and introduced me to the Wheel of Emotions, which literally shows you the many different emotions available (men often only know one: anger). This has brought me so much closer to my wife and friends
- You can question what your role is. What if being a âproviderâ doesnât mean you have to make more money? What are other ways you might provide for your family? What if youâre not a âproviderâ at all â who would you be?
- You can be happy, silly, grateful, and love fun. Traditional masculinity shows a grumpy man whoâs irritated with his family and complains at Disneyland (âCanât believe we have to spend all this moneyâ). What if you chose to be a goofy loving person who your family enjoyed being around? What if you LOVED being around people instead of saying âI hate peopleâ and building a man cave to isolate yourself in? You can choose your character. Society doesnât own you.
In the same way youâd train your body, train to stretch your own definition of masculinity, which is vastly more complex than what Online Bros might suggest
âUnprecedented destructionâ
Majority of U.S. military sites in the Middle East damaged by Iran, CNN investigation reveals.
Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth desperately tried to keep the extent of the damage from the public so people wouldnât see how badly this was botched. Now the images are coming out and theyâre disturbing.
You can take things seriously without taking them personally.
Our tendency is to turn any criticism or complaint into a personal attack. We reply to it, defend against it, build a counter-argument, lose sleep over it.
You don't have to eat everything that is served to you. You can respond to criticism without digesting criticism. Take what's useful, do your best to improve, and leave the rest.
