Great high school coaches are quitting because they don’t want to deal with all the nonsense that has nothing to do with basketball.. hard to blame them
💥NEW: Jillian Michaels: "The reality is that when you give gay people a MONTH and veterans a DAY, I think you have WILDLY lost sight of your values and your priorities."
Things you can do as an athlete:
- beat your wife
- abuse your kids
- run from the cops
- do insane amounts of drugs
- go to strip clubs
- bet on games
Things you can’t do as an athlete:
- Support the current President
Eli Manning on youth sports: “I wanna ride with your dad on the car ride home.”
That line says it all.
Parents: the game ends when the whistle blows.
The car ride home should build joy, not steal it.
Be that parent.
So, in the NBA Steve Kerr can falsely accuse the government agents of murder from the podium with no fines, suspensions nothing.
But Jaden Ivey can't be pro Christian on the Chicago Bulls? Make it make sense.
Let me help rephrase for you Bernie.
Need a loan for college so you can party for a semester and drop out? Taxpayers will loan you money for it.
Need an SBA loan for your business ? Taxpayers will guarantee it.
For a house ? Taxpayers will guarantee it. And local gov will give you money for your first down payment !
Get sick or are in an accident and you can’t afford your deductible, insurance company denied prescribed care or are uninsured ?
You are on your own 😤
Let me add Bernie, the one debt not a single one of us will ever pay off till the day we die ? Our health insurance premiums
And before you go in and on about single payer, ask @claudeai to take a look at your proposed Single Payer legislation.
You want the Sec of HHS to run it. You can’t have a political appointee run an apolitical position
And you expect every provider and doctor to accept whatever rate is set by Medicare. Big hospitals don’t know their costs. They couldn’t do a BOM for any procedure. They have negligible transparency.
If they don’t know their costs, and you don’t know their costs, how is it possible for taxpayers, caregivers and patients to get a fair deal ?
And the concept of “every other country does it “ ignores the fact that they all converted decades and decades ago, long before you and your peers allowed the extreme vertical integration we face now.
Which leads to the question. @BernieSanders , why have you not advocated for the Break Up Big Medicine Bill ?
I asked Dan Hurley the same question I asked Tom Izzo: why does the media have a problem with coaches coaching players hard?
Hurley: "Society has gotten soft in a lot of ways... The real world is tough and cruel... I'm preparing my players for life."
Let your kids be coached. Let them get used to coaches holding them accountable. If you save your children from discomfort & hardship, you often keep them from realizing their own strength, abilities. Let them grow their character so they can become confident, independent adults!
Incredible take from Charles Barkley on Tom Izzo:
"The media, who don't know anything about sports, say 'Why is he yelling his players?' That's called coaching... if parents & friends get mad because you're getting yelled at, get better parents & better friends."
Parents:
If a coach is willing to volunteer their time to coach your son or daughter, please let them do the coaching.
If you really want to voice your opinion from the sideline all game, wait a few months and put your hand up to coach next season.
This story is now more than 25 years old and I have told it more times than I can count, but it hits very differently today.
I was anchoring SportsCenter one afternoon and Lou Holtz was on the show. I was quite excited to talk with him, he had been an icon all of my life.
He was very friendly, asking me all about myself as we walked toward the studio to record an interview. I told him: “Actually, Coach, it’s quite exciting, my wife and I are expecting our first child in the next few weeks.”
He stopped dead in his tracks and put a finger up near my face. And I’ll never forget what he said.
“Young man, the most important thing you can do for a child is make sure every day they know how much you love their mother.”
And, just like that, he started walking again.
Our daughter was born a month later, our son came two years after that. And I have thought about what Lou Holtz said to me that day about a million times since.
RIP Coach, thanks for the best advice anyone ever gave me.
