There is absolutely no need for athletes to clang n bang heavy weights constantly.
You can continue to gain strength without crushing yourself under heavy loads every day.
There's a reason periodization exists. Plan your progress. Plan your success.
An athlete’s ability to change gears to either “ramp up” intensity or “dial down” into recovery is often overlooked. Like down shifting to accelerate a car, knowing when to back off & work at lower output so you can stomp the gas when it matters ultimately gets you moving faster.
Patience may arguably be the most undervalued characteristic of ELITE athletes.
Those not falling into that category often rush to “catch up” rather than being patient throughout the process of improvement.
Performance isn’t that complicated.
If there’s no money on the line (scholarship/contract)
KEEP. IT.SIMPLE.
Eat, sleep, practice, lift.
If you can’t do the basics, you haven’t earned the right to worry about the complicated stuff.

HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES:
Go to the gym and do what you like to do. But when you want to work on performance, find a coach you can trust. The growth will be exponential in just a few weeks.
Prioritize your training.
Keep your focus, your focus. Constantly changing your training can be fun but it doesn’t accomplish anything.
Be deliberate with how you prioritize exercises/sessions/training blocks to make sure you consistently see improvement.

Summer is a perfect time to prioritize training. Athletes who do will have a distinct advantage to those who don’t.
Use the off-season to practice, not continue competing. Work on your weaknesses & come back a more well rounded athlete.
Use your time wisely.
Get your advantage.

Strength (n):
1. the capacity of an object or substance to withstand great force or pressure
Strength doesn’t just mean picking up heavy things. For athletes strong: positions, patterns, work ethic come long before lifting a weight.
Set a strong foundation.
Be a strong athlete.
Athletes: Stop falling for buzzwords.
If you find a coach using phrases like “The secret to unlocking your performance potential is…”
RUN AWAY.
It’ll probably be better than whatever workout they’re selling. There are no secrets in S&C, just quality, consistent, hard work.
