Super fired up to be back doing what I love.
Social Psychology-Solomon Asch line experiment: Do we change our behavior in the presence of others?

Grateful to Coach Cardinal & Coach Ratcliffe for bringing this together. Honored to join conversations on supporting modern athletes—Portal, NIL, Gen Z, & the evolving meaning of high performance. So much to learn.

I’ve always enjoyed sports banquets – a special time to celebrate the relentless efforts of our student-athletes. The dedication it takes to excel in both academics and competition is inspiring. Congratulations to all SCC student-athletes – Keep striving!
THE MIND GYM – Mental toughness isn’t built in the weight room; it’s revealed. Many athletes push themselves hard in training, but when everything is on the line, they choke as their heart starts thumping.
Mental toughness must be taught, understood, targeted, for adaptation.
This time in psychology class, we demonstrated the visual system responding to sodium-potassium ion exchange along the axon during an action potential! Seeing the process in action really brought neuroscience to life.

After five amazing years of working with Olympic athlete Sheila Hudson, today marks her last day. It has been an incredible journey collaborating with her and witnessing her dedication and drive firsthand. Wishing her nothing but success in this next chapter!
Competitive fighting is not for everyone. However, all athletes should take notice of this awesome community. Most athletes fight mentally every day with themselves. This internal civil war is what holds many back from pursuing their goals. Honored to be a part of this fight team
Super, super pumped to get invited to speak at Rowan University in New Jersey in two weeks. Honored to be on this stage. In my 23 years of working hard to understand physiology and psychology, I have learned that I will never fully master this space. Humbled to take part in this!
Biopsychology- We are learning about the nerve impulse and the sodium/potassium pump. How long does it take to send a nerve impulse (afferent) from the ankle to the brain? Let’s set up a procedure and test it. We tested this and collected the data.

Last week I had a chance to work with some awesome swim coaches in the Bay Area, working through peak performance.
Athletes call it “the zone, musicians call it “the pocket” researchers call it flow state, swimmers call it blue mind, Japanese warriors call it “no mind”.
Athletes I have worked with do not “feel good”before/during training &competition. The goal is to become aware, accept then pursue. If you are at a 3 out of 10, the aim is to give 100% of the 3!
Working through the low days is how we build resilience.Resilience= mental wellness
I am fired up for this one! This February I will have the opportunity to work with athletes from Carondelet HS in Concord. Targeted sport psych training for serious athletes. This type of intense training is not meant for everyone, but for those who really want to go for it!
I will have the honor to be in San Francisco for a week in January to work with the CIF commissioners, coaches, administrators. Teaching, communicating with modern day athletes where we can preserve “old school” values such as hard work, mental toughness, responding to adversity
I am super pumped to be invited to speak at this years Solano County Offie of Education summit conference this February. 70% of children involved in sports drop out by the time they are 13-14.
Pursuing competitive excellence CAN be a protective factor for mental health.
Honored to be the keynote speaker for the city of Vacaville winter basketball coaches conference. The message: pursuing competitive excellence and wellbeing can co-occur.
🧠 💪
So fun locking arms with MT Eden HS in Hayward. Had the chance to conduct a 2 hour training session on mental health, mental wellness and high performance to administrators and coaches.
High Performance and Mental Wellness can co-occur. 🧠 💪
Was awesome mixing with professional MMA fighter Forrest Griffin. Mental toughness: the real stuff, is weather tested, durable, sustainable, very sturdy- is built on rock, not quicksand. There is a difference between a guided missile and a loose cannon.
