A Heartbreaking Loss in the Hockey World

The hockey community continues to mourn Claude Lemieux, the four-time Stanley Cup champion who passed at age 60. Friends say he died of a “broken heart” from long-term depression and feelings of rejection, especially not being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame despite his legendary playoff career.

Just days prior, he received a huge ovation carrying the torch at the Bell Centre for the Montreal Canadiens.

Celebrating his stellar career: A fierce competitor, Lemieux won Cups with the Canadiens (1986), Devils (1995, 2000), and Avalanche (1996). He earned the 1995 Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP and was known for his grit and big-moment intensity over two decades.

Why are hockey players selfless? Because the best families are selfless. Many of these players had a parent who woke up at 6 a.m., tied stiff skates with numb hands and drove for hours and hours to hang out at a cold rink. Mom and Dad were all in. And they loved it. And their kids saw that they loved it, which meant, naturally, that their parents loved them. And when someone is convinced they are loved, they can move icebergs.
