Beef Cattle currently cost $2000’ish for a calf at 500lbs. You have to feed it 25 lbs of hay per day for 30 months when it is ready to harvest. That’s (9,100 lbs / 900 lbs per bale, for 30 months) 304 bales total at a cost of $1,700. NO OTHER costs, I’m into the cow for $3,700 at 1400lbs full grown. I gross approx 450 lbs of meat. Thats $8.23 cents a pound., in the box.

In this equation there are:
No slaughter costs
No operating costs
No vet/transport costs
No land/property taxes/insurances
No upkeep
No diesel
No seed for the fields
No fencing
No labor, no profit for us working 365 days a year. (Yes, cows eat on holidays)
Nothing!!

For sake of argument, let’s say all these above costs are offset by selling my “premium cuts”, (which isn’t even close….BUT….lets just say for this exercise, it did.

$8.22 a pound.

Now: Please tell me how ground beef I can buy for $7-8 in the store with that retail store making a profit? They have to keep their doors open to. Let’s call it a 25% profit margin (and that’s LOW). That’s them buying ground at $5/$6.

I’ll let y’all form your own conclusions about how this is done. You CUT corners. Period, end of story. Ain’t no other way round it. Next time you buy beef, remember this very basic math and ask yourself what exactly you are putting in your body for $7-8 bucks.

Do yourself a favor and establish a relationship with your local rancher/farmer that you KNOW doesn’t cut corners AND works their brains out 365 days a year just trying to do the right thing to better their community. 🙏🥩🇺🇸

So, let me try to shortly explain the cycle, so that my explanation makes more sense.

Rancher breeds his cow. Little less than a year later, he has a calf. Calf stays with the cow for up to half a year, before it’s time for the calf to go start doing it’s own thing. It’s at that point, a rancher usually has to decide for the females at least, which ones are staying home to become future cows, and which ones are going to go with the steers and become burgers.

If they stay home to be a cow, they’re not making you any money till their first calf is sold which is 2-3 years away, so the more you keep, the less money you have coming in on the short term. It also means the more money you’re going to be putting out in feed, vet bills, etc as well. But you also have to keep some, to keep your herd size steady.

If they’re going to be sold/meat, you still have a 6-12mo span till they’re gone and you have some coins in your pocket.

Now, fun things that make this painfully long cycle more fun:
1. weather/drought/floods/bad winters
2. the fact that the EPA has squeezed most of the small feedlots out (where you send the animals to for their high caloric intake before becoming meat which is what happens to most of them), meaning that transport costs are higher, and windows and the size of windows to get your animal in are smaller
3. USDA/EPA/FDA pressure on small butchers/packers, so that for most people the only option is selling the animals to a big feedlot because they have deals to get them in to the big packers, or trying to navigate that yourself
4. Market conditions. Remember all the scares we’ve had around the world with beef? Mad Cow and all that? Well, that’s something COOL (country of origin labeling) was supposed to help with. We slap labels on everything else for where it comes from, why not our beef?

Does Argentina make some decent beef? Yes. Is the quality and safety of their market as a whole remotely comparable to ours? Not a chance. Their bottom end is terrible and dangerous. Last 20 years, I can’t count how many times other nations have stopped imports of their beef for periods *because* of these issues.

So aside from temporary relief of consumer prices (which I’m not sure how that helps ranchers? no one has made a convincing argument it would that I’ve seen), there are other risks about doing some more bulk importing of foreign beef.

If people get sick from it, and we get another scare, that’s going to hurt our ranchers more than theirs, especially because they won’t know where it came from.

With the damn near monopoly we have with packers, who have fought against COOL for years, we’re going to be trusting them with making sure there is no cross contamination? Or issues with labeling? The same ones who’ve lobbied and fought to put us in this problem?

All Trump is doing, is giving a short term potential win for the consumer, with a massive amount of potential long term risks, and feeding more profit to the exact same giant bullies who have helped cause this mess.

It’s a complex issue, there is no easy button solution, and the easy button carries far more risk than people are talking about.

The only way to rebuild a cattle herd is for ranchers to hold back heifers (young females) for breeding instead of sending them to slaughter. When ranchers do this, supply tightens and feedlot prices go up.🚨

If you flood the market with cheap imported beef (even for 90 days), what happens to US ranchers? Live cattle futures drop (NCBA CEO "cattle markets have already turned sharply lower this morning"). 🚨

Ranchers who are holding out, trying to rebuild the herd, see prices drop. Their margins, already squeezed by drought and feed costs, collapse. What do ranchers do when prices drop and feed is expensive? They liquidate the herd. They sell their cattle to slaughterhouses at lower prices to stop the bleeding. If ranchers liquidate, the US cattle herd gets EVEN SMALLER

Who controls the slaughterhouses? The "packer monopoly" as Sen. Tim Sheehy called it. JBS (Brazilian), Tyson, Cargill, National Beef. If domestic herd liquidates, ranchers sell off their cattle to the big packers. The packers get cheap domestic cattle. They pair it with the cheap imported beef from their parent companies or alliances abroad (JBS is Brazilian, they basically control the Brazilian meat export market). JBS stands to make an absolute killing. They can source cheap beef tariff-free from Brazil through their own supply chain, blend it with domestic beef, and sell it at a marginal discount while pocketing the massive tariff waiver savings. 🚨

And if the domestic herd drops further, eventually the US will be structurally dependent on imported beef forever. The US will lose its food security. If you destroy the domestic cattle herd, you consolidate power over the US meat supply into the hands of a few multinational monopolies (JBS, Brazilian-owned; Cargill; etc.). These monopolies can then dictate prices indefinitely. Meanwhile, Trump gets a temporary 25% optics drop in grocery store ground beef for the 60 days leading up to the November election. He saves the GOP House/Senate.

Once the domestic herd is liquidated (cows are slaughtered, they are dead) , it takes 3 to 5 years to rebuild a herd (gestation + raising to maturity).

So this 90-day window permanently sets back US beef independence by years. This is a massive transfer of wealth from US taxpayers to the meat packing monopoly and foreign agricultural giants (specifically JBS/Brazil).

1. It will continue our century long transformation into the primacy of digital life and away from our older community and culture and social norms—the feminization of norms and work-life will snowball.

2. It will transform and disrupt our waterways and land access and make older ways of living more expensive to enter and increasingly unobtainable. Natural resources will be more expensive and national Conservation will be harder.

3. It will reinforce the phenomenon of transplantation of families and people across America and make organic communities connected to their long land roots even more rare, continuing on the path toward disappearance

4. It will centralize the control of the means of production into those firms who have access to state power and who will use this power to eliminate competition and community dissent. This type of unhealthy wealth will do the same thing it has done since the 1960s: social engineering via managerial manipulation

5. The power elite gaining wealth in these industries are and will be the most at odds with historic American and Christian values and the culture produced with data centers will reflect that.

6. It will make it possible for culturally leftist blocs of people (who used to dominate urban and then suburban America) to survive, thrive, and want to live in rural America (this is what happened because of remote work in California).

7. Mass man will continue in their addiction to technology which will subsidize their unwillingness and inability to labor, while continuing the long trend of cultural digitization and its role in cheap access to culturally subversive norms.

8. It will replace America’s grand natural landscapes and open frontiers with ugliness, drought, and inhumane superstructures.

9. It will reinforce the present culture of the globalized man, who has no home or history, but lives his life interfacing with screens and artificial intelligence. Migration trends will continue as they have for the last century.

10. It’s a furtherance of all the by-now vindicated warnings about computer technology and the internet that were made by traditionalists in the mid-20th century. Data centers are the continuance of a cultural revolution in an age when what we desperately need is economic counterrevolution.

With all that said, you cannot prevent any of this from happening. It is the future. Some things, like the internet, are too powerful for people to stop.

Beef prices aren't up becuase of tariffs you moron. They are up because:
1. 4 meatpackers have consolidated the entire industry and are currently under investigation for price fixing.
2. Cattle herds are at record lows because of leftist policy for the past 10 years intentionally trying to destroy the meat industry to prevent climate change.
3. We imported 40 million people in the past 4 years that are all subsudized by the government to buy beef from walmart.

This is all well known and the American left has been public about this for years. A temporary waver of tariffs on foreign beef to bring prices down during midterm elections is not proof that tariffs are bad or that the current situation is caused by tariffs.
