@ByPiperHutch I’d report them myself & help the person find another job. If we find out someone treats their +18 differently than under 18 workers w/ this optional break I will file a bill to reverse this change.

Texas, Georgia, & Miss follow federal laws on this proposed same change.

@ByPiperHutch We’ve all worked where they tell you “you have to take your break at this time” or “you get 2-15 mins & a 30 min lunch or take an hour lunch.” If a place in Louisiana is not affording a break or lunch & forcing labor we need/WOULD hear about & they wouldn’t be in business anymore

@ByPiperHutch I understand the worries, but placing the under 18 group with the +18 group will result in the same break being offered to both. In franchise agreements and POS and policies for companies they offer EVERYONE breaks that are freely taken similar to other companies.

@ByPiperHutch In this social media age (which is now OUR reality) we live in, the moment someone tries to abuse the “optional break” for all workers, the world will know about it before the owner does.

@ByPiperHutch A lot of folks don’t understand even back then & even more so now… there is no getting over on a 16 or 17-year-old nowadays. If a person has a job at that age, they want to work & earn their money for whatever reason & don’t want to be told when they have to get off the clock.

@ByPiperHutch We understand there are folks that may try to abuse rules. I truly understand the protections. You have to actually TALK to a young adult & ask them what they want. The high schoolers in my area don’t want to be told what to do. They want it to be their decision. Just ask one!

@ByPiperHutch So, in HS my friends (10th & 11th gr) that worked the 2 grocery stores always said the rule was silly they were forced to take 30 min break (snack & do nothing the for 20 mins) & the Seniors (18+) could stay on the clock if they wanted or take their break (optional).
