Delighted to be joining (for a bit, at least) the @Deakin Centre for Future Defence and National Security, as Associate Professor in Strategic Studies, based at the Australian Defence College in Canberra.
Labor MP Ed Husic on the Sydney protest last night: "How is it that people engaged in peaceful prayer can be moved on faster, more forcibly, than black-shirted Neo-Nazis standing outside NSW Parliament?"

The Israelis are calling this a "preemptive" strike. Whether you agree or disagree with this attack, these are not - from what we know tonight - "preemptive" strikes. The Israelis are using that word for a reason. Read on. /1
A lot of work from a few people has gone into this week's ABC News Daily special on Australia's housing market, and what's gone wrong over the past three decades to push housing out of the reach of ordinary Australians. Please listen and share if you like https://t.co/vFkWyVpCWF
Trump is consolidating. He looks like he believes he is winning. Harris is not going backwards, but she has not opened a clear lead to claim victory Nov. 5. Trump is the Titanic. Harris is the iceberg.@smh & @theage. BW @USSC.
Australia's proposed misinformation laws protect the banks over the right of Australians to speak freely.
If these laws pass you won't be able to say anything that causes harm to "public confidence in the banking system."
So under these laws those who called out the recklessness of mortgage backed securities before the Global Financial Crisis would have been censored.
Why does the Labor party think that our banks have earned the right to be immune from criticism?
The misinformation laws are to protect them, not you.
"You don't need the United States to defend Australia. Australia's quite capable of defending itself"
A surprising endorsement of the ADF's military capacity, or rhetorical overreach from a former politician out of office for almost 30 years... https://t.co/TkwUQZFh5m
Donald Trump has told a group of supporters that they won’t have to vote again if they elect him to the presidency.
The former president is telegraphing his authoritarian intentions in plain sight, @brianklaas writes: https://t.co/55CbEDpUIa
They also usually operate in what we'd call a "privileged" space on your machine, that is they have very broad-reaching control in order to detect and mitigate risks. That also means that if something goes wrong with an update, it's able to catastrophically nuke your machine.
My chat with ABC News Daily on Australia's hidden mortgage hardship crisis: https://t.co/DESaUZgVg6 Some fresh survey figures out from ASIC Moneysmart today showing 2 in 5 Aussies with debt say they are likely to have trouble making repayments over the next 12 months (5.8m ppl).
Awful. It will take an investigation, but there are a couple things to keep in mind:
• We’re never worried about the aircraft – it can handle turbulence. We’re worried about you having a seatbelt on
• There is no real-world data indicating this is becoming more frequent, according to the NTSB
https://t.co/3ri24mfzzr
• Turbulence injuries & especially deaths remain very rare
• Pilots have some indications of impending turbulence, but the system is far from perfect & sometimes there is no warning at all
• FAs out in the aisle w/ a drink cart is the worst case scenario for suddenly encountering moderate or severe turbulence
• Many of us are aware that the seatbelt sign gets ignored & some of the reasons behind that. We’re partly responsible…it’s complicated, but keep your belt fastened anytime you’re seated!
In any event, someone lost their life & that’s a tragedy. Still, it’s nothing to start a panic over. We’re working to reduce turbulence injuries, but it may be a while before they can be eliminated, if ever
