When I first came across this issue, I intuitively thought of the data center protesters as modern luddites. I read about the case in St. Louis exurb Festus, Missouri. City officials tried quietly socializing the hyperscaler costs of energy and infrastructure on to its 12,000 residents. These costs would amount to the equivalent of powering nearly half a million homes. It was at the end of March a clip of Festus city council members approving a data center construction project despite popular protest went viral on all platforms. Ostensibly, these council members approved the project for special personal interests with the undisclosed cloud computing company; they were all removed from office and their mayor recalled in an election just eight days later. This story is even more troublesome when you consider the historical context of this middle class white working town. Decades of deindustrialization, ghetto black flooding, and unaffordability of St. Louis (once the 4th largest and fastest growing US city) pushed 600,000 white Americans out. Towns like Festus became the refuge for millions of displaced families against colossal capital indifferent to the quality of life for Americans. Only a few decades later are these same people being dispossessed of their community again.

This nascent AI industry already comprises 5% of the US economy and is likely to grow into $10 trillion worth of activity in just ten years. The American people will increasingly become vulnerable to the whims of AI capital that is growing beyond the scale of any other industry. Given that 11 out of the 12 hyperscaler companies building in the US are lead by foreigners (including 6 Jewish Zionist, 4 Hindu CEOs and founders) it brings into question how much these directors of tremendous capital are willing to sacrifice the American people for their own pursuit of power contrary to our own interests. 🧐
