Kumba is preparing for its final roar at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, with its last day of operation set for August 2 after an unforgettable 33-year run. When it debuted in 1993, the legendary coaster was Florida’s tallest, fastest and longest, while its towering vertical loop and signature roar helped make it one of the most celebrated roller coasters of its era. While fans will say goodbye to a true icon, the story isn’t ending. Busch Gardens has announced Kumba’s Revenge as part of a $100 million investment in the park, ensuring the spirit of Kumba lives on while ushering in a new generation of thrills. Have you ridden Kumba, and what is your favorite memory of this legendary coaster?
Twenty years ago, Holiday World didn’t just add a ride — it added an entire new holiday.
Back in 2006, the park debuted its Thanksgiving section, anchored by The Voyage, a record-breaking wooden coaster that helped push Holiday World’s seasonal attendance past the one-million mark for the first time. It was a defining moment for the Santa Claus, Indiana park — one that turned a bold expansion into a signature identity.
The Voyage’s reputation only grew. In 2013, TIME magazine named it the nation’s best wooden roller coaster, a headline-worthy nod for a coaster that had already become a must-ride for enthusiasts and first-timers alike.
In an 80th anniversary season built on tradition, the 20th anniversary of The Voyage and Thanksgiving stands out as a modern milestone — proof that Holiday World can chase record-breaking thrills while staying true to what it’s always been known for: safety, service, cleanliness, and friendliness.
